Navy Yard Employment

Anybody have an opinion on what work is like (t)here? Got a job offer today, and am wondering if I should jump on it.

The WNY is a nice working environment and the neighborhood is getting better by the month. With the prospect of some 4,000 new feds (dept of transportation I believe) preparing to locate in their new offices next door the promise of more restaurants and maybe even a Starbucks is strong. You can forget about parking on the yard unless you carpool or have a handicap plate, and even that is getting worse. Street parking is currently available and rules are not enforced but that is due to the large number of construction workers needing to park. Once construction is complete and new housing built where current old projects are being torn down, you can expect street parking to be rare and restrictive.

As Paddy said; Take the Metro. Also, you will be close to the Nats games as soon as the new stadium opens!

I have had no issues parking in the garage...it all depends on when you get there and the badges on your vehicle. I don't particular like going there but sometimes a few members of my staff have to.
I would have to say that 95% if not more of the computer systems there are owned by NMCI.

It's better than it was, but I'd still be MIGHTY careful if I had to walk to or from the metro off rush hour. Our DC office is across the street at 300M. Be aware there are many shuttles from CCY and the Pentagon.

Depending who you work for Gov't or contractor and other issues you might qualify to use on of the shuttles.

I work at yard

If you are in by 0700 parking not too bad. Good place to work, but not a lot of eating options if you have limited time and have to stay there.

I see a red mini white roof with the 40 year sticker on it, a red with black roof and a green convertable around the yard a lot, do these belong to any of ya'll? I drive a red with white stripes and driving lamps.

With at least four of them on the yard and someone else maybe starting work there soon, we might have to start the WNY Mini Club!

One of my best friends works at the WNY -- drives a Subby -- but has seen the MINI with the 40 year sticker. I have the same, so she keeps trying to spot who's driving that one. No luck yet. I'll tell to look for the rest of the fun drivers, too. She says the same as the rest re: parking & safety & food.
