Hurray - A Production Number

Well, we can finally begin to celebrate. After three weeks, Mini of Sterling finally came through with a production number. After I spoke with MoS I called 1-866-ASKMINI to see if they could give me a production date. They couldn't but did give me two interesting pieces of information;

1) Apparently the factory will continue production through August as they have received production allocations through the middle of August.

2) The factory will not begin producing the 2007 model until November.

With any luck we will have our MINI before Labor Day!!!

Congrats on your #.

And thanks for the timeline info for the 2007. I thought it would be much sooner. Guess I need to check motoringfile more often.

How Long?

Can anyone tell me how long I should expect to wait after receiving a production number before production will actually begin on our MINI?

That varies a good bit. But I can tell you that the Owners' Lounge is the most vague and inaccurate. The 800 Ask MINI number is more up to date and more accurate. And a live person at the Ask MINI # can pull the MOST accurate info.

At the dealer the MA's can pull a data report from their system, (Not one accesible to us) that is very good, might be the same one the operators at ask MINI use. It seemed on par. I think mine even showed the TIME it went to paint.

I'll have to show you my 'book' Sunday from my car order and wait... Where I tracked it all. Helped me retain some sanity.

Thanks

This is the first car that I have ever ordered and the process has been quite frustrating to this point. I have received no feedback from the dealership unless I continued to call and bug them. The GM at MoS said he could not even give me an idea of a possible delivery date. I also spoke with (866) ASKMINI and they said to call back next Tuesday. So we continue to wait with great anticipation...

Yup, sorry to say the dealer will be your least informative source. I used the Owners lounge heavily. Once that indicated it was scheduled for production things start to happen. At that point I combined using the automated 800 ask MINI (where I wasn't bugging anyone) with a occasional call to a human at ask MINI when it seemed like some landmark was afoot. Once production actually started a couple days in a got the MA to print the report that showed it's progress from body to paint and all.

Then there's a tedious wait for it to make it to the port, and on to a ship.

Did you ever tell us your spec?

MINI of Sterling Out - Tate To The Rescue

Well,

Yesterday I was dismayed to find out that although I had been given a Production Number by MoS the car was not scheduled for production and probably would not arrive here until at least October. The GM and SM at MoS seem to be playing games with the Production Numbers.

Well, I called Tate MINI and spoke with Brian Mahaffey an MA there and he surely "did a solid" for us. He got us a production number for next week and if all goes well we should see our new addition by the end of August or early September.

If you know anyone in the market to purchase, I strongly recommend Brian and the guys at Tate MINI. No games and professional all the way.

At The Docks

Well, it's official. Our MINI has made it through production and is sitting on the dock waiting for a ride to the US. It looks like the next vessel out is on 1 September. If we make that boat we should have our MINI around the 20th I would think.

Any thoughts? I guess it is about time to join DCMM.

Wow...that's awesome!!! You must be beside yourself w/ excitement!!! Give us a full report and some pics, okay?

I'll probably be ordering an '08 next year and I confess I'm a bit apprehensive about re-entering into the mad roller-coaster ride of ordering....and waiting for...a new MINI. Oh well...no guts, no glory!!!

Except that THIS time you'll be actually DRIVING a MINI while you wait for your new one... not so bad now, is it?
