Drivers Wanted by Target - June 24 and 25

All-

I got this message today through the DCMM website. We definitely have drivers with small car experience! If anyone is interested in taking Target up on this offer, please use the contact information below.

Please note - this is not a DCMM event and we are not asking anyone to help out. I agreed to pass on the information because the Folklife Festival is a fun event and this could be a way for a few members to drive around some small cars (probably not MINIs) and make a few bucks.

Jen

Dear DC Metro Minis Members,

I found your website on the Northamericanmotoring.com forums. We're
interested hiring drivers for an event in the DC area next weekend, June 24th & 25th during
the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.

Target has a fleet of Smart Cars that travel to various events across the
US, which we manage. We are in need of 4 drivers for each day, six hours
per day, with pay of $20/hour. We need drivers with small car experience,
and after finding your website, I thought I'd contact you. I realize this
is short notice, but we only recently got confirmation of this event. Would
anyone in your group be available next weekend to drive these Smart Cars, or be able to make a recommendation for small car driver resources?

I can be reached by phone or email via the information listed below. Thank
you in advance for your consideration.
Best,

Mike

Odd fact... the website for the festival shows it as being from June 30 - July 4 and July 7 - July 11. I wonder why they need drivers for the 24th and 25th?

Sounds fun but I'd have to find out if I was working or I can take off before that date comes up. I'll keep this in mind though.

I called the guy and left a voice message. Hopefully, I'll hear back from him regarding the dates. Sal, I'll ask about transmission types when I speak to him.

The Smart42 that Target used last fall were automatics with paddle shift option. They took a little to get use to, but there were a blast around town. The best part was the Target coveralls that you had to wear while driving the cars!

UPDATE: Drivers wanted by Target -June 24 and 25

Hello Everyone,

My name is Mike, and I'm the one who you've all been emailing regarding interest in potentially driving the Target Smart Cars next weekend in Washington, DC (June 24th and 25th). First let me say thank you for your interest in the Target Smart Car program. Secondly, I want to apologize for not responding to emails anyone who is interested in driving has sent. Unfortunately, our office is having server troubles and I'm not currently receiving outside email. However, once the problem is resolved I'll be sure to follow up with everyone as quickly as possible.

I also wanted to give everyone a quick overview:

-We don't have our exact route finalized yet, but we will be trying to hit several large events going on. Initially we talked about the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, but it looks like the dates for that event are later in the month. Regardless, there are a couple of other large scale events on June 24th and 25th that we are looking into motoring around.

We only have 4 spots available for drivers, but will be sure to keep everyone's information on file to contact them for future opportunities.

It is Target's policy that all interested drivers must take a drug test prior to the event(s). We will make this as convenient for you as possible, and it is necessary step taken to protect all parties involved.

We'll also be asking for a copy of your valid driver's license, as well as the completion of some additional paperwork.

Our team looks forward to speaking to everyone just as soon as our email gets up and running again. We're very excited to kick off the summer season in DC. Thanks in advance to all who apply!!!

Best,

Mike

They're at least 3 feet shorter than a MINI. When I was in Italy visiting my sister in Milan, I saw these cars everywhere. They're so small, that you can fit 2 in one parking space.

I was in Norway this past February and saw a few of them. Here is a good description of length. They were parking perpendicular to the sidewalk between full size cars, which were paked parallel to the sidewalk and they were not sticking out into the street.

Sorry for the run on sentence.
