Turbo Mini Lives

The turbo mini lives and it has exceded our expectations. We're being very conservative at this point but with the rev limit set at 8500 and modest boost levels, sub 4 sec 0-60 times are not uncommon (once the tires get traction). We've already seen over 300 hp at the wheels and this is in a very raw state. Stay tuned......

WOW! I can't wait to see it. Now I have another reason to call and set up an appointment to get the CAI done.

L.D.G.: Care to elaborate, or is this another Promini-BBR-Helix13-Madness and now-FTR-esque "secret turbo project"? It seems I have the highest power single-turbo MINI on 93 octane unleaded. None of these companies have the ability it seems to back up what they claim. Maybe you can?

Cheers,
Ryan

I suppose I can ask this question when I bring my car in tomorrow...

0-60 in less than four seconds "once the tires get traction??" I am trying to visualize this. From zero, you hit the gas hard, the wheels spin like crazy and the car goes nowhere, then finally they bite and off you go. Is that it? Could it be two seconds of wheelspin followed by four seconds of acceleration?

I guess what I really wonder is just how you put that much power to the road.

When John's giving it the gas, you're pressed into the seat for a good 7 seconds or so... I wonder what the G's on that thing are.

All I know for certain is, I couldn't stop grinning when he slowed down and asked me what I thought.

Why do so many have first hand experience but no information on the setup?

Could be that we all live in and around D.C. - a place well known for its secrets, mystery, and intrigue - the land of trained observers with tight lips.

What is it that you want - plans, diagrams, pictures, schematics?
What do you offer in return?

Care to post your Dyno's?

DING DING DING!!!

I have rang the bell. Put up your dyno results and protect yourselves at all times. This fight will be ugly and every individual on NAM will be the official referee. I reserve the pay-per-view, or better yet, pay-per-post rights.

John is building a home brew turbo setup as proof of concept for himself... He's pleased with it so far, and knows he has more to do... He's not building a system to 'sell' or market at the moment.

Why do we all have first-hand info? Because John likes giving his customers a ride in the beast to either thrill or scare the bajeezus out of us.

I assume someone can atleast say whether this is a MCS with a turbo (twincharged or just turbo?) or an MC with a turbo?

Statements like "thrill" and "bajeezus" will have to be backed up by appropriate paperwork reflecting numbers. Until then, they will be dismissed and no points will be awarded.

I am sure it's an MCS with a Turbo (S/C gone), no way it's an MC, the engine would blow up.

I have not seen it, but have talked with John about it. It is in fact a single turbo only MCS - no S/C. I really don't know much more than that.

If this is the same mini there is a post that shows the kits as he was building it over the last few months. Try searching turbo mini or maybe its on mini2 with a link in a post on NAM. Any way the one I saw which I'm sure its the one in question. Is indeed a MCS with just the turbo/ no SC, it has the regular mini parts in place of the super charger, and the work this guy did from making the pipeing to the fitment is spectacular, and I'd let him do the work to mine any time. Also in one of his later post we realized why the mini made so much power. After seeing crazy Hp numbers he search for answers and this is what he found. ON eatons web site the S/C at a given RPM looses about 60 hp, when modded at a given RPM it looses about 45 hp so a MCS that makes say 207 at the crank, that motors really putting out more like 267 at the crank but the S/C is eating 60hp. The turbo fixes this problem there isn't that much excessive heat oppose to the S/C, also you remove the rotating mass and the force that the S/C requires to turn. So after looking at these numbers he realized why at 6 pounds below factory boost he made
(I think it 16 more or 60 more hp than factor) So once the car is really tuned and the boost levels are bought up to factory levels he realizes (we all should realized because its a fact) this mini will be a beast

According to John, it's an MC with MCS internals. (don't take my word for it)
