Breakfast at MINI of Sterling - Saturday, Jan 21st
I'm up for the ferry ride.
We live in Boyds, so I just need to head out 118 to Rte 28 then White's Ferry road. Perhaps we could set a meet-up time at the Ferry? (and we should confirm they're running, although with the current temps, I can't imagine them not.)
For people heading to Air & Space after breakfast, it couldn't be easier:
From Google Maps:
Start address: 21826 Pacific Blvd, Sterling, VA 20166
End address: 14390 Air and Space Museum Pky, Chantilly, VA 20151
Distance: 7.9 mi (about 13 mins)
1. Head northeast from Pacific Blvd - go 0.1 mi
2. Make a U-turn at Pacific Blvd - go 0.2 mi
3. Turn left at Commercial Dr - go 0.3 mi
4. Bear right and head toward Sully Rd - go 0.1 mi
5. Bear right at Sully Rd - go 6.0 mi
6. Take the Air and Space Museum Pkwy ramp to Air and Space Museum - go 0.5 mi
7. Continue on Air and Space Museum Pky - go 0.7 mi

DCMM "Fill the Ferry" Event.... great idea!!
How will we get a camera up above the ferry though?

There are extremely detailed directions to get from I-270 (Exit 6) to White's Ferry at (http://www.mcmullans.org/canal/PDF/W...Directions.pdf). the route offers a fair amount of twisties, some straight stretches, and good scenery. From the ferry it's only a few minutes to Leesburg and then maybe 15 more to MoS along the Greenway.
Now here is your challenge: Coordinate with enough MD MINI drivers to FILL THE FERRY! A photo would have a good chance at winning any MINI photo contest.
Maybe someone from the VA side can arrange for a bowl of free grits to anyone who can show a receipt for the ferry! (Not me, I'm a displaced west-coaster and don't know how to make grits.)

Just my thoughts
As to grits - just an excuse to eat butter

How many MINI's do you think we could get from MD? It would take a lot to fill the ferry.
Looking at the photo of the ferry at the link above, it looks like it it is three lanes wide and about 7 or 8 cars long. If you take an average car length of 15 feet (I'm guessing) and leave a foot between cars plus a couple feet at the ends, you get a platform something like 120 to 130 feet long. We can stack the MINIs 10 cars in a lane, maybe 11 or 12 depending on the ferry platform's actual length and how close we jam them. (I'm ignoring any weight limit the ferry may have).
That means 33 to 36 MINIs!

Good time to go to A & S
The Udvar Hazy just opened up the new space exploration wing a couple months ago. So if you haven't been there in a while there's something new to see too.
I wish they had put SpaceShip One in UHC instead of downtown.
It's my favorite place to go hang out.
I will be picking my MINI up tomorrow, so if all goes well and I remember, I will be there on the 21st.

The event was staged by Donna Kazmarik before Donna and Mike moved to San Diego. In my pictures, you will see a very pregnant Patricia Babischkin before David was born as the first DCMM baby; The Bab's have also now moved to California.
Here are a couple of pictures of Minis on the Ferry:

The scavenger hunt started and ended at Dulles Towne Center. After the scavenger hunt we caravaned to White's Ferry. Just took 7 (Leesburg Pike) out to Leesburg, then on to 15 North through Leesburg and a right on to White's Ferry Road...
