Aha! You still have to drive by Tate & The Market.

Dunno. The closer you get to DC, the fewer the twisties... Even going straight there from 50, beltway, then out to sterling, you're still lookin at ~ 45 minutes.

Hey Wagnbat - I could always bring em back through Great Falls Forest where we get stuck behind geezers on the side road to Great Falls and Rt. 123 to McLean. Oh wait that was Will the Service Advisor from Tate. Never Mind.

There are some decent roads around there.. BUT tons (underlined) more traffic on their twisty side roads).

I will be attending.

Virginia traffic

I'll make a phone call and see if I can get the roads cleared for say a three hour window

You should consider a northern route and take White's Ferry across from MD to VA. Lots of good roads that way.

Whites Ferry

Be aware that if the river is running really high - no ferry service - this time of year I would call ahead. Weather conditions in Western Md. can sometimes be different than here and can affect river height. Coming across 70 and then down 15 and across the Potomac at Point of Rocks is a nice trip as well.

Other then Whites ferry no other crossings until you get to our infamous beltway

De-beavered. Rofl, nevermind.

Hmmm... Since it's just breakfast, and early in the morning on a Saturday, I don't know if I want to be driving all sorts of twisty unknown back roads, ferrying rivers, and dodging old people for some Virginia Grits. :P

I liked the idea wagnbat had of a movie trip after my first breakfast... Since we still have a whole saturday after the breakfast, and it's a little trip there for some.

How about a trip over to the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Annex at Dulles after the breakfast? If you're into aviation, it's an awesome museum - I personally think it's even better than the NASM downtown.

And, if you want to take in a movie, they have an IMAX theater too.

I'de be up for that. I've heard alot of good stuff about it. I can also see if I can track down Spartan there, a guy I work with did some flight code for it.

Sounds like a good idea -

I do know that we do have to pay a per entry fee if we park in the lot near the museum. I've been itching to go!

Yeah, it's pretty funny - the museum is "free", but you pay $12 (I think that's the fee) to get into the parking lot.

It is definitely worth the $$ though - the SR 71, Enola Gay, Space Shuttle Enterprise in particular are most impressive. It's not often you get to see this hardware up close and personal.

That's a good idea! It's right around the corner from Sterling, and I always wanted to check it out, but never actually did it.

Since this isn't a driving event, and the museum is so close, may I suggest carpooling from MoS to the museum? That would turn the $12 parking fee into $3 per person, if we put 4 people per MINI.

Just an idea - some people won't mind paying the $12. I ordinarily wouldn't mind either, except that I've been to the museum before... it'll be nice on the second visit too, but a good opportunity to save some mulah!

My only stipulation with the A&S Museum thing is that I can't be expected to lead anyone there. It didn't work so well last time I had to find my way to the Baja Fresh after one of the Tate Breakfasts. To my defense though, I didn't know the area and just had a general idea of where we were going. So all the sudden lane changes and such were due to me seeing signs for roads we needed to take.

Good idea, in addition, if we're taking the greenway, I believe theres a hefty toll. Carpooling in MINI's, saving money and the environment! How can we go wrong?

Actually, this is a good idea! Drive from your location in MD to Poolesville, MD and take White's Ferry (http://www.mcmullans.org/canal/whites_ferry.htm) across the river. There are extremely detailed directions to get from I-270 (Exit 6) to White's Ferry at (http://www.mcmullans.org/canal/PDF/W...Directions.pdf). the route offers a fair amount of twisties, some straight stretches, and good scenery. From the ferry it's only a few minutes to Leesburg and then maybe 15 more to MoS along the Greenway.

Now here is your challenge: Coordinate with enough MD MINI drivers to FILL THE FERRY! A photo would have a good chance at winning any MINI photo contest.

Maybe someone from the VA side can arrange for a bowl of free grits to anyone who can show a receipt for the ferry! (Not me, I'm a displaced west-coaster and don't know how to make grits.)
