August Events?

Hey Mr. events coordinator (I thought you said we had a deal), do you have a list of events for August yet. The only one I know about is the standard Tate Breakfast.

I'm cooking up a run in Annapolis for August. Expect to see details this weekend!

And if anyone has any ideas of fun roads to travel on, or a nice, interesting place to visit, please speak up and send an email to events@dcmetrominis.org, or simply reply here! Even if you don't want to plan a route/event, you can lend me your ideas, and I'll run with it from there!

-Paul!

Edit: PS - Nice TMBG ref!

An event in DC or around the area would be nice. Are there any great scenic routes in the VA or WV area we can do?

We avoid DC, the urban environment isn't condusive to group drives. The traffic and the lights tend to break groups up and there are few real twisty roads of any length in DC other than Rock Creek Parkway. We've looked at some kind of gathering in the city as well, however parking becomes a challenge...

As for VA and WV routes... Just a few weeks ago we were in VA for a quick run, and before that was Backroads and Battlefields in MD and WV...

We really do try and scatter our events throughout the area. That said though, if you do have any event ideas or potential routes, feel free to contact events@dcmetrominis.org and our event coordinator will be happy to work with you to put the event together.

There's some great roads in western Virginia that I know of. I'll probably try and set up another overnight trip at one of the campsites out there a bit later in the year, right around the time for fall colors!

If we wanted to do a dinner or drinks or something in Georgetown, I can probably swing discounted parking at the hotel as long as our date does not conflict with something that will fill our garage. There are several garages in the area that do $6.00 parking after 5:00 pm which is not bad

I agree, I'm not far from DC

wait a tic....

which would be why I'm part of the DCMM, duh Kat!

Aside from the dumbness of myself today, Georgetown would be awesome to go for dinner/drinks. I still have yet to attend a DCMM meeting because I can't make the 3rd Saturday breakfasts. :(

I'm going to play around with the roads around where i live and post a suggestion on the RCM forum whenever i get around to it... I live near Louisa, and have lived here for a year and a half, but have only been to the end of my street once. Granted, it's a long road i found some nice "sharp" turns and fun windy roads just after my street, and passed extremely nice people who's kids about peed themselves when they saw the mini. EVERYONE waves.

I don't know how many of you would want to come all the way down here, but i'll try and figure something out and let ya'll know just in case

Heres a little more ambitious idea....

We should coordinate a group trip to England... Go for the Mini in the park event, tour the factory, rent out some minis and drive on the other side of the road....

wouldn't that be fun?

granted, ill have to do some serious saving of money, but who else to go the england with, than people who appreciate the mini as much as we do.

Talk to me in November... I'll have an in in the travel industry then...

Last September several of us did this with 3 couples returning to the US by retracing the route our MINIs take to the US.... Southampton to New York on the Queen Mary 2. Left from the berth directly across the pier from where W&W stages cars for shipment to the US.

In the near term, several members are headed to Italy for MINI United in October...

I was stationed in England for two years, and I absolutely loved it!!! I would love a MINI-related excuse to head back over there for a few days! And I remember some great roads that I've traveled on. Anyone up for a drive on 'Snake Pass' between Sheffield and Manchester?

Unfortunately, I first have to figure out just how much time I have to take off, and my immediate future is up in the air currently. In a few months though when everything settles down (and assuming I have the money :smile, I'm game!

I would also love to head over to MINI United in Italy, but the above also applies to that trip.

Wonderful idea. I've been to England a few times, I have an Aussie cousin that lives there now (he married an Englishwoman).

Depending on timing, I'd be interested too. Word to the wise though, EVERYTHING is super-expensive in England. It's only gotten worse with the weakening US dollar too. Not that I want to put a damper on the idea, I just want people to be prepared.

As a matter of fact, I have a "contact" (not my cuz) who lives in Oxford right near the factory, and has offered accomodation if I wanted to visit sometime. Problem is, I don't know if I could swing many others joining in for that too... but at the very least, I'm sure he could offer excellent advice on clean places to stay for a decent price.

A few of us have contacts AT the factory who could assist the group, plus the local MINI clubs over there wouldn't mind the chance for a gathering.

I would also recommend traveling to Europe in the offseason (mid-fall to late-spring) for fewer crowds and cheaper airfare and lodging prices. The weather might not be as great, but are you really going there for the weather?

Again if you can wait until November before you really start planning this, Patricia and I will have a travel business up and running that should be able to coordinate all of this... Especially if you want to tack a Trans-Atlantic cruise with it (that would include your airfare to or from London depending on the direction you took the cruise...)

OOH! I'll be in London in November! But I think it'll be a bit expensive to take my MINI with me. Plus, the gals that are coming along won't have as much fun as I would. They'd be confused and wouldn't understand the excitement of the factory
