Driving School
OK this is an old topic but we never come up with a group of people willing to sign up for a class so I will try again ... please help.
If we can not put together a group I still want to take a course to improve my driving skills where should I go? Did we have a member in our group who was an instructor of Summer Point in West VA?

how much are you looking to improve? Are you looking for something to get a little help on the autocrossing track. OR do you want to understand theriving to the fullest? If the ladderwould be your answerwould highly reccomend Bertil Roos Racing School. www.racenow.com
I took there five day course and was blown away by what they taught me. You'll not regret it.

You're looking to get your MINI on the track? I like this group that holds events at Summit Point: www.nasaracing.net. It's the Mid-Atlantic region of NASA. I'll be attending something with them when their events come up. There are usually at least a couple of other MINIs as well.
I will be attending an event there April 30, May 1 & 2 with the Delaware Valley Chapter of the BMWCCA. Day 1 & 2 on the Jefferson Circuit, day 3 on the main track. They're probably about sold out at this time, but you could always just stop by.
Check trackschedule.com: http://www.trackschedule.com/sched.html. You'll find the events of many groups listed there at different tracks.
Almost certainly there will be a day this summer with btw. 10-20 MINIs attending an event at Pocono on one of the inner road courses.. Keep your eyes open for a thread on that.

He doesn't do Summit Point, the track in which the original poster was interested. Anyway, I've run with 7 different groups, and with the exception of getting lots of track time, he was my least favorite. I didn't feel that the instruction was that good, and there was practically no classroom time. Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy. I've heard that he's hired some people to head up the instruction part of his school, one for each region. We shall see.
I don't believe we have a member who is a Summit Point instructor. Our closest contact was the old MINI Sales Manager at Tate who was an instructor there...
Towson is looking to put something together again at Summit Point in the fall. It may be open to more people this year. Towson wasn't very happy with the turnout last year... Many people booked space at the event and then didn't show...
There will be 2 certificates for Phil Wicks given away at MINIs on The Dragon, 1 at the Chili Cookoff and 1 at the Farewell Dinner.
Two of our members were looking at putting together something back over the summer, but I don't know what happened with it... MikeW, Deb?

Went to Brian Garfield's Level 1 Solo II (Autocross) SCCA class last year and highly recommend it. Holds it at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick, MD so it is not far. URL is http://solo.wdcr-scca.org/noviceSchool.php They usually fill quickly. We had 4-5 MINIs, 2 Cobras, and a variety of others. Brian autocrosses his MINI so your "orientation ride" is fun!

I did it. Yesterday I attended the Brian Garfield's Level 1 Solo II (Autocross) SCCA class at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick. The morning session was terrible because we had to walk the course twice in the rain, then still in the rain and wind we had to check the cars etc. It was cold, I was wet, I was miserable but .. I had fun.. in the early afternoon we were able to run and boy it so much fun. I got to do a few runs with the top down !!!!
My instructor Brian (no Garfiled) was very cool. He still thinks I should go faster ... I was surprised how much I learned in just one day. No Minis but one Cobra (replica) one del Sol and a couple other good cars. I cannot wait for level 2.
