Feeler: December Run
Feeler: December Run
Howdy All --
As I haven't seen any mention of a run in December, I figured I might as well be the proactive one (for once) and put one together.
My dilemma is this: the next Meet & Greet is at MoS on the 20th. I figure that's a bit too close to the holidays and everyone will be busy shopping, shopping, shopping and/or hangin' their trees to be goin' about ridin' through the Virginia countryside.
I've planned a route to take us from MoS to Purcellville, pit stop, then from Purcellville back to MoS or to the British Pantry. It's about a 3 hour run.
The alternative is a run on December 14th (Sunday). That's probably a more realistic date for many. We could still meet at MoS, or, alternatively, we could meet somewhere closer in. Closer in would probably work better, so that all y'all comin' from MD wouldn't have to drive even further than necessary.
So, the questions are:
1) Is anyone interested in doing a VA run?
2) Does the 14th or the 20th work better?
3) If you are interested, is a 3 hour run too long? I can cut it down to 2, if more people would be interested.
Any ideas on interesting destinations, etc., would be welcome.

Hooray, a run in Virginia!
I knew somebody would do one sooner or later.
I'd definitely be in for the 14th or most likely any other Sunday. Not sure if I could convince someone to switch non-scheduled days with me for a Saturday.
No preference on 2 or 3 hours.

Woo hoo..... VA run sounds great indeed.
More detail please.

I'll still keep the fun roads on the list and try to stay away from the highways.
Still thinking dinner first then drive on up.

Spitfire-ah yes, I remember now. Thanks for the reminder.

I think if the weather holds, a bunch of us Maryland folks would enjoy a trip down to Virginia.

However, if the run has to be on the 14th, then might as well keep the M&G on the 20th.

2) 14th
3) 2 hours + lunch
This Marylander will be there.
And like the idea of "Jam=Packed" DCMM month. Spread events throughout the month, then we can have a month full of events. Member can pick which week they'd like to join or even join every week.
Great idea Larry.
My, oh my. Quite the deliberation going on here.
Okay, since the 20th doesn't look good for a lot of people, I am planning on the 14th. As it is the 14th, we don't have the restriction of starting at MoS, so I'm going to try to make our start point a bit more interesting, but will attempt to keep it close enough to Maryland to make it easy for people travellin' from over yonder.
I am going to do a few runs this weekend on my own to figure out some good roads. I know my way around back in the hinterlands beyond Sterling, but only on main roads. I'm going to try to find a bunch of good back roads up there.
I will post a new thread with the real details of the run once I decide the start point, but as for now:
Date: December 14, 2008
Time: TBD, likely 10:30AM
Duration: ~2 hours + lunch
Location: TBD, likely somewhere in Northern VA
Lookin' forward to this!!!

Oh no Byl, you've started down that slippery slope of route planning!
Soon you'll be pouring over map books, trying to connect 1 squiggly line with the next. Next comes the day you go out to inspect the roads and find that the squiggliest one is gravel.
Of course, then you discover the road construction detour.
Now you gotta find the rest stop and figure out how to fit that into the run.
Seriously though, it's great fun putting runs together. Let me know if you need any help.

Thanks for the offer, Bill. I've done some preliminary planning, already and am going to go find my squiggly lines this weekend. Wish me luck!!!Of course, I already know that Virginia doesn't have a thing on Maryland when it comes to squiggly lines, but I'm going do my best to find some nice scenery to make everyone forget that. We do have some pretty farmland out here. Hopefully the loss of foliage doesn't ruin it.
Keep tuned, cowpokes!!
