[Sat, May 17th @ 9.30am] DCMM Monthly Breakfast @ MINI of Towson
For the record - I made a motion to stop paying for the breakfasts and it was accepted - as a club you don't have enough of a revenue base to spend $100-200 every month for a breakfast event.
As a club member I'm very disappointed that you've all lost sight the dealership is also giving us space to meet as a club (at no charge). If I were the GM of a MINI franchise and I had a dealership that was clogged with a bunch of passive-aggreessive non-buying MINI customers I too wouldn't be too inclined to do a whole lot for the breakfasts.
It's up to the club and their social skills to work with the dealer and potential members to make the most of the breakfasts.

Also, when you say it's up to the "club", what do you mean?...that it's up to each member to use our social graces to convince dealerships to sponsor breakfast? Or, it's up to the officers to do so?
But, I did not realize the Club did not have enough money to support this. That is important info.

(yes, I realize my NAM Administrator position gives me the unique ability to post the "last word" in a closed thread... but since I didn't get a chance to post during the activity, and as someone who (I feel) is on good terms with everyone who posted, I cannot remain silent)
<sigh>
The direction this thread took is a perfect example of the problems with Internet communication.
I want to first start out by saying that Katie was -NOT- slamming Chris when she mentioned he arrived late with food in post #26. I can understand how some people misinterpreted that... but if you step back and read what she wrote, she was simply stating it as as matter of fact... NOT a slam at Chris. A whole bunch of people were so quick to throw in a knee-jerk reaction in defense of Chris... that it distracted from the entire point Katie was trying to make!
Reading all of the defensiveness in the thread made me want to scream STOP! Chris has given an enormous amount of his time and energy to the club... everyone sees that, including Katie. But you know what? So has Katie. They are BOTH to be commended for their dedication and support to the club.
Chris - you really should not have felt insulted by what Katie said. It wasn't intended to be one, that much I am sure of... and I haven't even talked to Katie since the post was made. Perhaps her intended point wasn't expressed as well as it could have, but that doesn't mean it was meant as a slam at you.
The way I read it, Katie's point was that each of the breakfasts (if they are to remain as such) really needs someone to coordinate with the dealerships and/or other members to make sure there actually is breakfast.
Should that someone necessarily be a board member? No, it isn't the job of the board to take care of EVERYTHING. Sorry Chris, I disagree that you think it should be a board member. I think Katie was talking about volunteers, and not necessarily even the "event coordinator" position. PlayPlay... not "the members", just one or two individuals will do. Ideally someone who lives close to the dealership in question and is willing to be the "contact point" or "liason" to discuss the breakfast with them, and see if they are willing to provide the breakfast themselves. Even if they are not, the communication is still necessary to make sure they know in advance that we are coming, so they are not surprised or unhappy about our presence.
A non-profit club can't be successful without volunteers. If you live close to one of the dealerships and you have a good relationship with their sales team, why not offer to be the "DCMM breakfast liason" for that dealership?
Also, to clarify... as Kurt explained the decision to cease reimbursement to members for breakfast items was made by the previous iteration of the board, before Katie joined it. I was on that iteration of the board, just as I am on the current one. We made that decision for economical reasons, as it wasn't seen to be economically viable at the time. That doesn't mean the policy can't or won't change in the future... but that is where it stands today.
And to Marina... just like the others you also misinterpreted Katie's original statement. She wasn't scolding Chris... but I have to say I am very disappointed at the sad and publicly embarrassing fiasco that this thread has developed between you and Katie. I care a great deal for you both and it pains me greatly to see this happen. And yes, although Katie participated in the dispute (and therefore both at fault), it was your post that triggered it. Much like throwing the first punch. It really wasn't necessary.
Peter... I know you love to give your "feedback" (pun intended, obviously)... but your posts weren't helping either... they just stirred the pot.
This entire fiasco reminds me of the post-MOTD frustration experienced almost every year... it always happens... people stand around and point fingers at others and how they're doing it wrong, yet they don't offer to step up with creative & constructive solutions, including their own time to fix them.
What a mess. It's no wonder that Dan (PGT) has decided he doesn't want any part of the club. I don't blame him one bit... what are we? KIDS? No, we're ADULTS! It's time we stopped insulting each other, whining, being destructive and slamming people, both in front of and behind people's backs (that includes you too, Glenn)...
We should try to welcome everyone in the club that loves MINIs. It's why we are all here! PLEASE - focus on that common interest... and try to let the other personality differences go. Don't get defensive so quickly and don't be so quick to attack. Shake it all off... seriously!
I have been a member of this club for 3 years, and a board member for 2. If this is the type of petty, childish and knee-jerk reactionary attitude that the club continues to have, then this will be my last year as a board member, and quite possibly the club. That's a very sad realization for me, as I love this club a great deal.
GROW UP, PEOPLE!
