Jets are for kids

Now that I have my SuperClubman (pics to be added later) My next project is to be one of these......the guy flying builds better than he flies !

After that one is finished I want to build one of these ! It has a 5 cylinder Petrol Radial engine ! Sweeeeeeeet !

These span about 110" to 120", quite small compared to that four engine flame thrower

Cheers,

Mike

Here's a shot of my latest paint job, wish I could take credit for the build, I just engineered some design changes on this one.

BTW- I will be flying this one as an R/C model at our club field, I'll let you guys know when if you want to come out. Probably be after the first few flights, just for safety.

Will do, like I said, I want to get some flights on it before I pull a crowd. These things can kill you, a 25" carbon prop at 6000 rpm, 50 pounds at 70 knots...well you get the picture.

Anyway, this is just an R/C plane, not a UAV. We must fly the UAVs in restricted airspace or go through the FAA to get clearence (not easy). It won't do anything fancy.

I am in the midst of getting my Thunderbolt MkI back in action, she hasn't flown for more than a year because I couldn't transport her around (Wensley is a wee bit small) so, she should be ready by the weekend, I hope.

Here's a few shots of her from 2006

Here's the club website - http://www.freestateaeromodelers.org/ directions are listed, feel free to drop on by. I'm usually out during the week after 4:00pm (weather and wind permitting)

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks ! I wish I could say I built her, a guy in NY did, poor chap was killed on a motorbike. I did refinish it with the RAF 130 Squadron SEAC Markings along with adding a bunch of rivets, panels, hatches and scale detail.

Here's a clip from Jeff Ethell flying the P-40, I watch this and can't believe how the characteristics of the full size bird translate into the ~ 1/5 scale model. On the landing, the main wheel landing and rudder technique is right on. Jeff was a nice person, I met him once and was so impressed, such an easy going person, in a way his death flying a P-38 is tragic but then, he died doing what he loved to do, fly warbirds ! Also attached is me flying my P-40
