MOTD # not so good

WOW! This years MOTD may be like the 4th year. Here is last years count compared to this years count.

Maybe it is gas prices that are keeping the people away. Not good though.

Or it could be because it's becoming more of a business/vendor event, than a Mini community gathering.

Don't get me wrong, if I was anywhere stateside, I'd be there!

That may be part of it, but with the AMVIV registrations, I saw around 100 of our total of 449 pre-registrations in the last month. I sent out an email last Wednesday reminding everyone that reg was closing on Friday, I got 15 registrations between Thursday 5pm and Friday 2pm. There was a mass influx of the people waiting for it when reg 1st opened, then a bunch soon after Xmas, then a bunch right around when the room rate was closing, then this big last minute group.
I expect MOTD sees a similar pattern, but without the New Years spike.

Or, and no one wants to hear this, there may be more people just coming, but not registering.

We have not canceled our room, but the fuel cost for 5,000 miles is giving us pause for thought.

the problem is with non-registrants, is that any give aways, i.e. the info table is based on registered numbers.
I hope I'm going to have enough info stuff...

I can't believe people cant' pay 10$! i mean come on!! But isn't this always the issue every year? Problems when things grow, and grow, and grow. That means more food for us and beer (hammeredette), and better chances for winning prizes!

I'd like to see the final count top last year's. But seeing how this is my first MOTD, it really doesn't matter to me. Good roads, good trail running, and getting down to Knoxville to see family. What else is there?

As a newbie to the Mini world I thought "what a fun event this would be." Then I read on and on about the local law enforcement on the Dragon. I will GUARANTEE there are more serious things going on within a 100 mile radius the officers should be worried about.

So sadly it is up to the local residents (read into that business owners) to get involved. If buisness is slow due to the incredible number of police perhaps then thing will change.

But until then I look forward to joining in on some small get togethers with many of you...

As a newb myself I'd love to make it but life keeps getting in the way right now! I'm also a little hesitant (I blame the shyness...lol) since I don't quite know anyone yet and I'm not sure if my bf will be able to join me due to his class schedule. I'll also have to request time off of work.

If I can only make it for Friday and Sat would I be missing out on a lot? What is the situation with getting rooms like right now?

As to what you'd miss, check the event calendar for the Dragon. Given the low number of attendees so far, I'd call Fontana to see if there are any cancellations...you might get lucky.
I just looked at the attendee list for this year, last night. I'll know maybe a dozen people, unless folks I know from years past aren't registering. That's sort of part of the whole experience...getting to know new people..

Out of the 50+ people I know going to MOTD 08, not a single one plans on registering. We registered last year, but didn't feel like we got our money's worth. I'm sure other people feel differently. It probably depends on how many official events you plan on doing.

You and your friends should at least have the courtesy of registering your MINIs. It don't cost nuthin' and you would be helping the organizers have a better idea of what kind of crowd to expect.
