[Sun, June 1st @ 10:00am] DCMM Summer Kickoff Run & Picnic
Aw crap - now I'm really sorry I missed this, especially since it was about 10 minutes from my house. Alas, the wife and daughter got back from Dallas on Saturday night, so we needed a little family down-time on Sunday.
Nothing else on the calendar for this month - really?

If I can remember, I'll try to post the route sheet later on but they're probably all roads you've been on. The only part that is a "must drive" if you haven't been on any of the roads was Dr. Perry Road off Thurston.
This photo doesn't do it justice but Maxicooper called it a roller coaster sequence. We had lots of screams and whee shouts over the radio during this section.

We have an unofficial Indian Food grubfest coming up soon. Check the Indian food thread.

As Bev (mrsmellowyellow) was about to pull the very first door prize, Derek and gang were razzing me about how if I win then they knew the drawing was fixed! Sure enough....I got the first prize. And more razzing.
Fun day all around and great camaraderie.

Wow, What awesome photos so far! I love them!
Unfortunately so.
For anybody that travels 270N regularly, watch out around where the HOV lane separates and becomes a little overpass. They hide at the very beginning of the bridge...

Oh no! I saw you and thought I hope that's not someone from DCMM!
Here is a list of the winners of this year's Golden MINI awards!
Winners were chosen between the dates of June 1, 2007 to June 1, 2008. Also, several awards were given out to the MINIs on hand that day such as Best Plate, Mad Modder and Most Head Turning MINI.
1) Best Run of the Past Year Award:
minirab won for his awesome Cumberland Valley Mountain Run - April 13, 2008.
Wolf617's Run with the Club, Man was a close second. Great job guys!
2) Most Confusion at an Event of the Past Year Award:
Maxicooper for his leading role in the Hangin' on the Curves and Pickin' the Cherries run last June where he lost 19 MINIs out of a group of 27.
3) Familiar Face Award for the member that's seen at the most events:
Hypnohealer won pretty handily. See you at the next event, Ed!
4) The NorthAmericanMotoring.com Person of the Year Award for the member who is always online:
This was a no brainer with SpitfireMkI winning hands down. Thanks for all your hilarious posts, Mike and thanks for keeping the forum interesting!
5) Mad Modder Award for the member that's addicted to modifying their car:
PlayPlay was an easy choice for this award. Beautiful car, Larry!
6) Most OCD about Detailing Award for the member that is obsessive about keeping their car spotless:
minirab cleaned up on this award! Great job in keeping your MINI looking so great Rab! Your hard work really pays off!
7) Lifetime Achievement Award for a veteran of DCMM that has contributed the most to the club:
After becoming the club president for the second time, Katie wins hands down! Thanks for stepping up when we need you most, Katie!
8) Rookie of the Year Award for a new member within the past year that has done the most for the club:
Another easy winner. Who could deny Laura (greencactus) this award after resurrecting the newsletter, joining the board, baking cookies for most event, joined the picnic committee AND taking over as the membership liason! Phew! You go girl!
9) Cutest MINI Couple Award:
Who doesn't love to see the cutest couple of Tom and Carol (t&cmcsa) at all these events?
10) Most "Bad ***" MINI Award:
This award started out as a tribute to the "meanest looking" MINI but once Wolf617 got his boot tattooed with a Mazda logo, who could deny him this award?
11) Best Personalized License Plate Award:
So many great ones to choose from but Mini_Voyager had the one we all want. Who hasn't tried to get a variation of Let's Motor?! Well, HE has it with LTS MTR! Lucky you, Chewning!
12) Most Head Turning MINI Award:
Boy this was a tough one. How could we possibly choose one and only one when each and every MINI is so uniquely special?! In the end we felt we needed to have a tie between mmatarella and reeechard. Awesome cars guys!
On behalf of entire picnic committee (greencactus, ccc777, maxicooper and myself) I wish to congratulate all the winners and thanks for being such good sports!
Glenn
Thanks to everyone who came out on Sunday!
All of the work was worth it in the end to see everyone having such a good time.
Also, thanks to everyone for the "Rookie of the Year" award. I didn't say much yesterday because I was afraid I was going to cry. I do what I do because I enjoy it, I never expected anything for it. So, thanks.

It's an honor, also I'd like to thanks the academy for the award.
It was a blast (and most embarassing moment) on the day that I set the DCMM's record of losing most of the MINIs during a run (lost 70% of the participants).
(Jeff attempt to break the record once during one of his runs, but failed
)I might try to break that record again this year.

Congrats to all the award winners.

That was definitely the awesomest picnic I've been to! here are the things that I thought were awesome:
attendance, the run, twisties, weather, MINIs, MINIacs, organizers, food, park, parking lot, awards, shelter, the Steve Miller CD we listened to on the run, the RC car action, others' photos that have been posted, group photo... let's see, did I miss anything?
Did I mention that the picnic was awesome!?

Parking is not ideal - but Bon Air park in Arlington has a really nice, very large, shelter that I have used for company events. Ball field, rose garden, bike trails, steam, soccer pitch, playgrounds for kid etc.
The parking lot is about a 1/4 mile walk from the shelter, though..

May I suggest one possible place for next year's picnic--CM Crockett Park, about 10 miles south east of Warrenton, VA. I've been there for my astronomy club's observing sessions, and there are probably some good roads to go run on around there.

!
'cause you scared me with your comment when I first got there
