from what i heard they are going to remodel the body aesthetics, and are just running the new chassis with a clubman body on it for testing- so im hopping they fix it up a bit, but im still very dismayed that the mini has been subjected to the suv world. its a disgrace.
does the word mini mean nothing to these people!?!? : ( tear...

I don't see it as a SUV, I see it as an all wheel drive Cooper S Clubman, something I might like to have to replace our larger, heavier, more gas using Audi allroad..........

I agree with you MINIDave. For my wife and I, it would serve as a replacement for a Ford Explorer, which is less fun to drive and gets almost half the mileage of my S. Also, since I don't live in a large city (less than 20k) and have family who live on farms, I can definitely see the allure of having a Crossman with it's extra space, 4wd, and higher clearance. Plus, I don't take the MINI to visit those family members as it scraps all the time and the roads (paved and unpaved) are a bit rough.

I think it's still a big part of the equation. From a Motor Trend article: "A designer tells Motor Trend his team worked up a proposal three years ago for a 165-inch-long Mini SUV, but BMW management says no Mini should be more than about four meters (157.5 inches) long."

i think its ok. Just because people's lives require an AWD or SUV type vehicle, doesn't mean that they should be robbed of owning something in the MINI family.

What ever happened to,

"The awesomeness of small

In a world of
Unyielding Giganticism,

The power of small is Enormous."

Unyielding Giganticism, how right they were!!

I agree.

As a utility vehicle its still pretty small though.

Article says;
The Crossman is expected to ride higher than current MINI models and offer all-wheel drive, making it a new option for weekend off-roaders. With these new capabilities, MINI hopes to expand its customer base to include young men who want something a little more "masculine" than MINI's current offerings.
While I fail to see how the BMW MINI is overly feminine, I also am missing the masculinity of this crossman.

For the record...I strongly suspect these spy shots are more of a Clubman mule for the SAV rather than anything final. I'd base no style discussion on these pics.

Personal opinion, I don't like it.... As old as I am, a Mini has ALWAYS been a Cooper.... A Mini SUV is too.... too... well.... big.

Not sure if this is related, but the only thing that I could see this being is a power-train test platform... Unless mini is going for the whole VW Thing styling.

Humvee sloping rear end tank like front not sure about the hidden styling cues but an urban warfare MINI would be a great leap in the getting cut off and tailgated department. Does it come with a turret?

With a mule like that and styling bit masked off you do just have to wonder
