Need Opinion: 215/40/18 vs 215/35/18

I’m in the beginning stages of shopping around for summer tires and need to decide on 215/40/18 or 215/35/18.

Last summer I ran on 215/35/18 and I loved the ride. It was comfortable and sporty (MINI style!)

I did however end up bending a rim while on 495 going about 70-75mph late at night. I hit the gap between the road and a bridge. I was able to still ride on them the rest of the summer and I plan to get the rim fixed this winter as well.

I wanted to hear some of your opinions on these two tire sizes. Pros vs Cons
Thanks in advance!

PS: i know there are a few DCMM people that ride on 18's - so that's why i'm posting it here.
PS#2: I'm on stock suspension and plan on staying that way for a while......

I have 215/40/18 and haven't had any problems. The reason I got the 40 was to fill the wheel gap. Once I get coilovers and wear the tires out, I am going to a 35. I really don't think there will be much ride difference.

I had 215/35 - 18" before. Their thin sidewall look nice but we have to be very careful for potholes and sidewalks. I end up having a few scratches from that.

By the way, right now I'm going with 225/35 - 18". Slightly thicker sidewall but it does fill up the wheelwell better, also look good from behind (wider cross section). I love it so far.
Hope this help.

By the way, the rims are 18" x 7.5".

215/35 - 18"

225/35-18"

You could also go with 205/40/18. The diameter is very close. I am using Mich ps2 and they are a very good tire just a little pricey.
