Monthly Dinners

Hello everyone. I wanted to find out if there is interest in doing the Monthly Dinner again this Winter.

What we did last year was meet up once a month during Winter to have dinner as a club. If I recall, we only had 2 dinners because of last minute planning and interest was low, but lets see what this year brings.

If there is interest, and I won't need much to get this started again, should we start this up a little earlier, say December?

Let me know what you think.

I love the idea ! My first Mini event was at Maxicooper's uncle's Thai restaurant for dinner, and I had a blast!

Speaking about breakfast, SpitfireMKI comes up with a Sunday brunch run on Nov 4th in Burtonsville, Md.
Here is the link. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=117705

The brunch will be at Iron Bridge wine company, Columbia. Great place though.

Chris - Thanks for the support !

As for dinner: I know you guys already have a mex joint over VA way, but we have one of the best over here in MD called "Sierras Grill" in Beltsville, great atmosphere and fantastic home style mex cookin'

see http://www.sierrasgrill.com

The link was acting funny earlier but they're still there

Hey, no thread jacking

Yes, I would like to rotate to different restaurants.

Maxicooper's Uncle's(Thai): Silver Spring
Hunan Manor (Chinese): Columbia
Union Jacks Sports Bar: Bethesda

We could start making a list of places and see from there.

Did somebody say food?

Jay - if you're making a list there, don't forget to make the (so obvious it smacks you in the face) addition of UJ's.

Ah, I got an idea. If you like steak, don't mind grill it yourself on the table, I'd like to suggest to try a Korean BBQ.

There a few around, but I found the best for me so far is IL MEE restaurant in Annandale, VA.

You will love it.

Hmm... I'm not a huge fan of Korean BBQ (especially the traditional stuff like kimchi), but I have been to that place (it's literally 1/2 a mile from my condo), and they also served yummy beef & chicken dishes, so there's something for everyone... I think my main dish was teriyaki beef. Not really Korean, I know... but delicious.

Lets do it, lets do it.

I know Scavenger won't hesitate to join, since it's 10 minutes from his place as well.

Kim Chi is not BBQ'd.

Anyway, there's a few good places for Korean BBQ in NoVa....I would recommend Han Sung Oak off of Columbia Pike. What you want to order is the Kalbi (beef short ribs) on the grille. You eat it with a bit of rice, sauce, and sometimes spring onions, wrapped in a large leaf of lettuce. Bulgogi, marinated and julienned beef, is also a popular favorite. Always specify that you want it grilled at the table and not cooked in the kitchen.

Afterwards maybe we can goto one of the late night bars to drink Soju and then goto a Noraebang place (karaoke in a private room).

Is that the one near Dominoes in Ellicott City? If so, they can't handle a large # of people there, plus it is not BBQ, it is Sushi with Korean.

I am spoiled with Korean BBQ because the family used to own Woo-Mi Garden in Weaton, so it better be good.

So, we have 3 Asian and one European place. Should I recommend Denny's or something

There is always Cassatts in Arlington if we need a down-under flair. And don't forget our good friends at British Pantry - which reminds me I'm out of PG Tips. Maybe I'll make a venture out there this weekend.

Weeknights are no good for us. Come to think of it, we work a fair number of Saturdays, too. Oh well... we'll make them when possible. Carry on.

Right. Unless you call seasoned cabbage that is buried underground for weeks at a time, "BBQ'd".

Ironbridge Wine Company, Columbia, Md. mentioned above is also good for dinner. Good food, exellent wine selection, beautiful setting, reasonable price.
http://www.ironbridgewines.com/

Also, I would like to recommend Greenfield Churrascaria Brazillian BBQ, Rockville, Md. Also nice set up, good food selection
http://www.greenfieldchurrascaria.com/rockville.htm

And if you would like to try a really good and different kind Chinese food, try Peking Gourmet Inn, Bailey Cross Road, Va. It's ranked the best place for authentic Peking duck in the area. A little pricey for dinner, but highly recommend.

I have a number of South American and Central American friends who believe the best Churrascaria place is Chima in Tysons Corner...its definitely a step above Greenfield...but it does cost slightly more....but well worth it in my opinion....

Yeah, we've got quite a few names on the list.

What will be the best candidate place from this winter's first dinner meet?

Well, one that can handle:
  • Possible big group
  • Parking lot and not street parking because of possible snow
  • Good food.....
What we did last time was go to one restaurant a month. We didn't start this till Dec. last year I believe. If I had thought about this earlier, we could've started this in Nov., but because of the holidays, it won't be till Dec. unless...........

This is just an idea...... What if we make it for Nov. 17 AFTER the Mach V event? We can find something near there and start it then.

Good idea, but it's going to be a very long day, don't you think?

Breakfast, Dyno, Dinner.........wow.

By the way, we do have other weekdays and weekend that pretty much open for anything to fill in, throughout November.

Just a thought.

I highly doubt alot of people are going to be doing both.

When? It has to be a weekend and alot of people don't want to do things like this on a Friday night after work or on Sunday, so that leaves Sat.

Nov. 3: To early
Nov. 10: Meeting
Nov. 17: Breakfast and Dyno Day
Nov. 24: No one around due to Thanksgiving.

We don't have to do it in November. I said it was an idea.

Oh yeh, we've been there before! There are also several other good places in the Annandale area.
