TINT recommendations?
Just got my 35% all around (yes thats illegal in VA) with 20% for the sunroof. Such a huge difference! Just ask Maxi
. I wish I did that the first time around! Thanks again to Carlos at Solar Solutions for a job well done.

I even make appointment to add 20% to the sunroof next week.
I got 20 all around and on the sunroof and with the factory tint it is at like 14% but it looks so good!
Carlos did my tint and did a good job but there is a small but noticeable mark/flaw in the tint (not an air bubble) on the driver's side window but I can only see it if I turn my head back a bit farther than normal (like grabbing for my seat belt) so I don't know if it's worth it to do anything about it.
Whatever you do, just don't go to Winner's Tint...

well...it's not how long it takes them that is the issue...it's that they lack the skill to do a professional job and after my experience, I'd like to spare any other fellow MINI owners (or anyone for that matter) from dealing with them. I sure as hell hope their tinting skills are better than their clear bra application skills but seriously, since they couldn't treat my car in a professional manner, I have no faith in their services, period. My bf was considering taking the car there for his tint but after he saw the sloppy install on my car and the razor blade cut marks, he said no way are they touching his car.

Anyone recommend anyone better?
No no, I was talking about Winners Tint in Rockville. I highly recommend Solar Solutions as that is where I got my tint done and am very happy. I can't fathom why DCMM members would go anywhere but Solar Solutions but if you do, stay away from Winners!
I believe I was there for about an hour and a half or so at most since he also did my sunroof and mine was the only car there. I just waited in their waiting room watching those horrible judge shows on the WB...lol (daytime television is scary!).
In case anyone was wondering what the tint regulations are for DC (as I was) here they are:
DC law allows the after factory application of window tinting in motor vehicles (DC Official Code § 502207.02)
provided the following requirements are met (except for MiniVans):
provided the following requirements are met (except for MiniVans):
There must be at least 70% light transmittance (i.e. 30% tinting) through the front windshield or front side windows; and
There must be at least 50% light transmittance (i.e. 50% tinting) through the rear windshield or rear side windows.
However, less than 70% light transmittance is allowed in the windshield above the AS1line or within five inches from the top of the windshield
Based on the feedback from this list, I'll be calling Carlos soon

Waivers
, but I don't know what the fines are for exceeding the limit.Probably worst case (and most likely) scenario if you exceed the limits would be that you would fail your next inspection and have to have all of the tinting removed.

Check with Carlos @ Solar Solutions. I'm happy with the result.
With NAM discount, the price is $100.

Also, I know the legal limits are either 50% or 35% in VA, so I've been planning on asking for a 40-45% tint as a combination legal/illegal tint average. I know it probably won't be too dark but I'm not really going for the blackout look, just enough where at night its hard to see inside. Anyone know if Carlos can do the 40% ? I have to head to work now, no time to call today.
Window Tint
Anyone have any trouble w/ the police after tinting the windows? Getting pulled over unnecessarily? Just curious b/c I want to tint the windows and sunroof but don't want to get hassled and each of the laws in DC, MD and VA are different. I don't want too dark but would like enough tint to cut down on the heat.
thanks.
thanks.
You can't be pulled over for tint in other states and get a ticket for it. Just be cautious. I haven't ever had a problem with it, but then again, I am still registered in FL, so I have really dark windows.
