Saturday, July 14th 5:00pm Dinner/6:30pm Movie

Who wants to go for some yummy Crab Cakes and a Drive-In movie?

Dinner will be held at By The Docks restaurant in Middle River, MD.
3321 Eastern Blvd.
Middle River, Maryland 21220

This place has some of the best crab cakes I've ever had, at a very reasonalbe price to boot! If crab cakes really isn't your thing then no worries, they have plenty of things on their menu that can fill your appetite. A proper RSVP count will be required for dinner because this place is very busy and reservations will be a must. Their parking is also typically a bit less then adequate, so we may have to park in the neighboorhood across the street or around back, but I'll see what I can do about getting us some spots on their lot.

Following dinner we will proceed about 1/4mile down the road to Bengies Drive-In Theatre.
From their site:
Quote:
The Bengies Drive-In Theatre features the BIGGEST movie theatre screen in the USA (measuring 52 feet high and 120 feet wide. 6,240sqft) The Bengies Drive-In Theatre features TriPPPle features on almost every Friday and Saturday night, cartoons, vintage trailers and intermissions clips, in-car heaters and dusk till dawn shows. Please note that a radio is required to listen to the movies and you'll be glad you have one because our state-of-the-art FM broadcast system will impress you. AM broadcast is provided as well for your convenience.
We will be arriving at the drive-in after dinner, which will be between 6:30pm-7:00pm. The movie dosn't typically start til 8:30pm or so though. This will allow us to park together and give us some time to chat and enjoy the nistalgia of the drive-in. I would recommend you bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. You know how you can sit at a light and have to crane your neck so you can see it? Probably going to be the same thing with the movie so your visibility will increase if you sit outside of your MINI. Note: If you have DRL's active you must have a way to block off your headlights to gain admittance into the drive-in. Best way to do this is a paper bag and painters tape.

Quick recap of the important stuff without all my jabbering.
  • What: Dinner and a drive-in movie.
  • Where: By The Docks for dinner and Bengies Drive-In for the movie.
  • When: July 14th, 5:00pm for dinner and arrival at the drive-in between 6:30pm-7:00pm.
  • What to bring:
    • Money, you can plan on how much for dinner by checking the menu online. Cash is a must to get into Bengies as their ticket counter does not accept credit cards.
    • Something to sit on for the movie. It will make it much easier to see the movie from outside of your MINI.
  • Questions: Feel free to PM me with any questions you have.
  • RSVP: The RSVP will be activated soon and I will post the link when it is. If you will not be joining us for dinner please let me know either in this post of PM so I can have an accurate count for the restaurant. Kids are more then welcome to join us for the night. Other makes have no reason to be shy either, bring any car you want, but be sure to bring your MINI mind-set.

Scheduled movies arn't announced until the Monday the week of. 5p sounds early for dinner, but with a 5pm reservation, we probably won't sit until 5:15pm-5:30pm.

It will all depend on my work schedule for that weekend, but the food sounds yummy and if I can make it I will!

My sister just did a drive in with her family in PA last weekend. They had a great time. The kids fell asleep after the first show and they stayed to watch the second.

On Monday if someone could let us know that they've checked the movie schedule to make sure it's not something saucy and age appropriate for family with children.

I was just checking out the drive-in site - pretty cool time-warp place to go to! Speaking of time-warps from the 50s did anyone catch the Plymouth Belvedere that got dugup yesterday? All I can say is "Cue the Price is Right Trombone..."

Sorry. Count us out. I was confusing Middle River with Western River. Never was any good with geography in school. It is just too long a hike for the evening.

This sounds awesome. I am going to try and make it if possible, maybe with a guest. Glad I don't have kids, because Bengies won't allow you to carry barefoot children around... (huh?)

This sounds like a great time...thanks for organizing it. I have been a member for well over a year, but have yet to participate in any official events other than two dealer breakfasts (bad on me). Unfortunately, we (myself, my wife and my eight year old son) will not be able to make dinner...however, we would love to meet you all at Bengies...we can arrive at 7:30ish...is this too late? Let me know what you think and thanks again...
