doing just the tune on a factory jcw car, will get you about 200whp.
the pulley will put you over it.
I had my car done by LDG at the Dragon.
15% Alta
Alta intake
Cat back exhaust. Borla race muffler with a Magnaflow resonator 10" behind it, SS the rest of way. Single exhaust.
Denso IK 22
Voll Synthese Oil.
The numbers that came up were 167 torque, 182 HP. on the print out. John added that I have to add 10% to that due to they did not compensate for the altitude. so basically 183.7 and 200 HP He modiflied a few cells and when the torque dropped he had the HP drop to 178 HP (196 HP adjusted). At which RPM I forgot (somewhere max torque was about 4300 to 5200) but I'll scan the sheet and post when I get a chance.
Anyway. the car felt pretty darn good afterward, not that it was bad before.
I have a July build 03'.

if you're at the shop and just gettin a tune, it will prolly take about an hour or so. if you're gonna get a dyno tune, i would think somewhere around three hours for that.. maybe. the only way to really find out about that is to ask LDG themselves. you could give them a call and find out.
Ok, so I'm trying to put a budget together for a trip to LDG. Has anyone had these upgrades done at LDG or similarly reputable locations?
- 15% Pulley Installation
- Springs Install
- Rear Sway Bar install
- lastly, the LDG Tune.
- One Ball Exhaust Mod
If you have, could you PM me and let me know what you roughly paid for that particular service? I just contacted LDG and got some surprisingly high off the cuff numbers.
Thanks,
Rhali

While I don't know what sort of estimate you got I think it's pretty safe to assume it was a very rough estimate. What I would suggest though is you call back next week when John is back in town and see if you can talk with him and discuss what you had in mind for the modifications or better yet what you were hoping to change about the car. He can help you figure out what would be the best ways to achieve those goals. Quite a number of people who have had their cars modified from stock form by the guys at LDG are amazed at the dramatic changes that can be made with (relatively) minimal money.

In regards to our pricing please keep in mind the level of services that we provide the Mini market. We are not a discount mass market shop, instead we provide world class services that are not available anywhere else, not just in this area but the whole country. We are one of the only shops in the area besides the dealers that now offer scanning, coding, and tuning for the R56. We are also the industry leader in performance upgrades and tuning as well. We feel that our prices are competitive in our market and location.
Yes, back to the original thread topic.
A couple of questions still weren't answered.......
What did it cost?
Is that cost worth it?
What HP gains does this result?
I have an 03 MCS Works and I was told the dealers did not flash the ECU when they installed the kit, but didn't the kit come with a different ECU from Works anway? (So, maybe it didn't need to be flashed, since it already was?)
Enquiring minds want to know!

I spoken with John about this. He says he has dyno'ed many non factory JCW cars, and says it seems that they don't flash the ECU at all. They just leave the stock S ECU, and just do the other upgrades that are with the JCW package.
As far as pricing goes, the normal price for just the LDG tune is $400. If you want the dyno tune, it will cost you $700. These are the normal prices and not discounted prices. I don't know what is required for a discount, you can speak with John about that.
Is it worth it? IMHO, yes it is! Very much so. You're looking at gains of somewhere between 7-15WHP depending on your setup (what mods you have). Every car is different. As for me, with a factory JCW car with no other mods. Power is right about 200whp with torque in the upper 170's. Stock factory JCW puts out right around 186whp.
car is definately noticeably faster than it used to be. Pulls much harder and screams up top. All the higher gears pull much harder than they used to.
If anyone is thinking about this, and they need something to help them decide on this. I am willing to give rides to people.

These prices are ever changing. In May it was $350 and $500.

Matt is refering specifically to my '02 S. The dyno plot, compared to a stock '03, can be seen here. This particular dyno pull only made it to 189 HP at the wheels, but John didn't take it quite all the way to the red line @ 7400. Making a conservative SWAG 10% correction from the wheels to the flywheel, the engine is putting out ~210.

I think he was there earlier in the day Monday. I stopped by later to pick up a coil pack and plug wires and got to talking with the guys.
