Nokian Hakkapeliittas / steel wheels question

I just picked up a 2012 Countryman ALL4 (woohoo!), and had planned to put a set of dedicated steels with studded Nokians like my last four BMWs for the winter. BAVAUTO sells a set that's supposed to be matched for the car (195/60/16 Hakkapeliitta 7s), but the dealership is telling me I can't put steel wheels on this car. I'm wondering whether it's ok to go with the steels, and if not, what aftermarket rims are appropriate, and what size tire should I shoot for? We get serious snow and ice here in the mountains, and studs make an enormous difference - I'd prefer to stick with Haaka 7s.

Thanks in advance!

Hakkas are great. Not sure if they are available in 205/60/16, but that is the size we are running, Gislaved NordFrost 5 though instead of Nokian. MINI sells some steel rims that work, but they were only about $10 CAD cheaper than the aluminum rims we ended up buying.

You can buy a CM on steel wheels in Europe.

Yeah, and they also offer two 16" alloy wheels for snows (the R122 and R123, I think). I can only find them on German websites, but I'd love to buy them.

If you have an S, 16s may not fit over your front brake calipers.

Tirerack's recommended snow package for the ALL4 is 16". Am I running a risk if I order them?

I've ordered a 16" winter set in advance of my delivery. Originally I wanted steel wheels.

The tire shop claimed that 16" steel wheels may not fit. These were generic steel wheels, and not the R12 steel wheels you can buy from your MINI retailer. I have a feeling the R12 wheel is manufactured with a tighter tolerance to clear the calipers compared to generic wheels.

As a result, I'm going with 16" BMW "knockoff" alloys for a little extra.

I ultimately decided to go with aftermarket alloys. I'll post photos when I've got them on.
