Mini Marshall Tailgate

Here is the Marshall football schedule this year. I won't be attending the first game because I will be out of town but any other home game is fine with me. I would suggest picking a Saturday game just to have the time to spend together, though. And I would avoid the 11/29 game since it's Thanksgiving weekend. I was thinking maybe the UAB game on 10/18, the East Carolina game on 11/8 or the UCF game on 11/15 but I'm open to suggestions. Let me know what game is best for everyone and I'll try to get something planned.

That would be awesome. I've only missed 3 Marshall home games since the first game at "the Joan" so any game would be fine with me. We might even consider the Memphis game since it's a 7:00pm game so it shouldn't conflict with any poor soul that has to work on Saturday plus it probably won't be too hot or too cool yet!

Apparently, I had lost my mind and suggested two away games. Sorry about that. We've had one vote for the Memphis game on 9/17 and one comment that October or after is better. I assume we want to do it on a Saturday...and not Thanksgiving weekend....

That leaves us with two possibilities: the Memphis game on 9/17 or the UCF game on 11/15. Any else have an opinion?

I'm pretty swayed with the 7pm for people who work on Saturday and September weather in better than November arguments but I don't want to cut anyone out of the fun. If we get an agreement on dates, I'll be happy to take point on planning this one.

I don't think we can get in the official tailgating lot by the stadium but people tailgate all over - I can certainly stake out a couple of spots in one of the lots. There is a fee to park in those lots but it's reasonable. My parents also have season tickets and I typically ride with them but we just park in the normal lots. We can get a couple of spots together if we park my parents car and my car next to each other. If another Mini comes, we can always move my parents car.

I think we could generally leave the cars out of this one, unless someone has other ideas. Obviously, a bunch of Minis together, tailgating, is fun but, Snyper, I see no reason for you to drive your car there and fight the traffic if you can walk. (Oh, how I miss the days of being in college and living right off campus and being able to walk....)

I have two votes for the Memphis game so, unless there are any objections (speak now or forever hold your peace), let's plan on tailgating on Sept. 17 at the Memphis game. The game starts at 7pm so we could start tailgating at maybe 5pm. What does everyone think about the time?

Isn't the game the 13th?

Checking the Herdzone website, they have the game set for
Saturday, September 13.

I hope this is right, since that's the day I have scheduled off <g>.

MINIEsq... if you already have tickets.. PM me the seat location,
so I can call the ticket office and see if there are any single game
seats available near you...

I don't know if I can make it. I'd like to get the banner to you prior to the game.

Yeah, it's Sept.13....my brain isn't functioning today (5 days in Vegas will do that to you). Anyway, I'm not sure where my seats are - my family has season tickets and they changed this year (and I missed the first game). I'll have to check to see where the new seats are.

Having heard no other objections, I'm planning to start the tailgating in the 4:30-5pm range. I'm confirming with Marshall where we can tailgate so I'll let everyone know of the exact location soon.

Unless there are other suggestions, I figure everyone can bring a bag of chips, or snacks, or a dessert, or whatever to share and everyone can bring their own drinks. How does that sound? Or does everyone want somehting a little more involved? More of a meal?

And can we get a headcount too please.

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to this!

Put me down for two <g>.

I'll be there with a friend of mine, the wife is going to sit this one out.

(She normally goes to ballgames just to humor me <g>).

I'm good with a little tailgate, or a bigger one for that matter.
I'll need to work half a day, but can make 4:30 or 5:00 no problem.

I can bring side items, pitch in a 20 or so towards meat <g>, if we make
it a full on tailgate, or whatever... I'm flexible.

I'm hesitant to get involved with "meat" items because....well....I'm not sure how we're going to cook it. We're going to have limited room, it seems like, and I'm not sure how we'd get a grill there. If people want more to eat, I was thinking pick up some pizzas. Plus, my early non-confirming headcount indicates that we're only going to have 7-10 people.

As for the head count, I'll be there, mostly likely with my parents.

Well, I was able to talk to Marshall about tailgating....might have been a mistake. Officially, we have to pay to tailgate, which means buying spots at $1500/each, plus parking pass, for the entire season. I explained that wasn't what we were interested in. The Big Green only runs the spots around the stadium and those are obviously out of our price range. The Big Green knows nothing about the other lots. They suggested finding a business who would allow tailgating in their lot for a fee.

Typically, we park in the lot on 6th Ave, near 20th St (where the student med center was back in the day). The Big Green didn't know if we could tailgate there or not. I don't see why we can't try - worst they can do is ask us to leave, I guess, and we can move to a spot of grass on campus or something. Or I can try to purchase a spot from a local business. Any thoughts?

if location is a problem, does anyone know of a group that actually pays for their spot and tailgates? Maybe we can join up with them. I know last week I hung out at the Best Home Medical party, and also at Subway. Not sure if theyre going to be doing anything at this game. but i figure if someone knows of someone/group. we could see about chipping in and joinin the their festivities? this would be good if not a lot of ppl end up showing too

Just meet up somewhere...?

I normally try to get there a little early and park down the road
where the motorcycle shop is. (Tends to be a bit of a walk, but
heck... I walk for a living <g>).

We could try to meet up there... or there's a couple of folks
I work with that normally tailgate... I can check with them
and see if there's room at there spot for a few extra bodies <g>.

What was our total head count???

Spoke to my coworker

Spoke to my coworker to see if he was still tailgating at the
same spot as last year... he said they are and had no problem
with us stopping by and hanging out.

They tend to have an "all inclusive tailgate"... food , beer....
oh, and more beer <g>. I mentioned that we were just
looking for someplace to get out of the sun and kick back..
he said if we wanted to bring food or beverages , that would
be fine with him.

They tend to be a fairly non rowdy bunch <g>. Good folks,
even if they are postal workers <g>.

(I'm not a big drinker any more... I'll probably bring a twelve
pack to the festivities... even though I'll only drink one or two <g>.)

We might want to bring a couple folding chairs with us. I may drop
off a couple three to him Friday and see if he could put them in
his van... that way we wouldn't have to haul them back to our
cars before kickoff.

Tailgate

I plan on going to work tomorrow at 7AM.
(Assuming I can get my eyes open, and my MINI woke up
enough to drive me to the Post Office <g>)

I should be in Huntington around 5... maybe a bit earlier.
If the weather cooperates , we could maybe meet up at the
thunderwalk ....

I've PM'd my phone number to MINIesq and Snyper...
give me a call around 4:30 or so and we'll coordinate a bit
better then ...
