MINI withdrawal is a terrible thing! Glad to see you had a good trip despite that.

So...what were the MINI drivers answers? Do they love them?

I might be able to assist you with the install if you'd like. But it has been a while since I did my pulley. I remember that I had to rent a bigger floor jack that would rise higher than mine would.

Mini withdraw

Sorry it took soo long Rainman!
Most of the people I talked to loved their Minis. One guy I talked to drove down from New York with his bike. I soo wish I had mine it would have been a blast.

Hey all, I'm headed up to South Dakota for our first time ever, next week. Anything I should know about that is a Must See? We are going with a couple from the UK who want to see the upper mid-west, so we'll be going to the regular spots like Mt. Rushmore, Wahl Drug, a mid-size rodeo they want to see in Deadwood. I thought some of you might know other good things that might be off the beaten path...

ok, thanks for the offer. It will probably be waiting for a little while because I was out "driving" the other day with some buddies with their civics, and missed a shift and lost a rod bearing. So I am not sure where I am going from here. I really want to order a motor from Jan at RMW, but am a little limited on the funds. I think I will see if I can get my aftermarket warranty to get it fixed....
Maybe I can find a short block for cheap.

Moltenhalo, I would suggest Custer Park which has Iron Mountain Road and Needles Hwy, both excellant twisties and also Spearfish Canyon from west of Deadwood to Spearfish. They are all a Mini dream. Devils Tower is only an hour from Spearfish. When are you going? I came thru therre a week ago and the bikes are already increasing for Sturgis which is 3 weeks away.

Was your car low on oil? I once downshifted into the wrong gear about 6 years ago and it was bouncing off of the limiter for a good 8 seconds without issue.

If all you did was loose a rod bearing, then I'd guess that the rest of the engine is ok. I am not a mechanic though. But you can order just the rod bearings and simply replace those.

@ Moltenhalo, we suggest The Badlands National Park. The Auto tour through the park lets you see some of the park. Binoculars help you seem more at the various stops along the route. Pronghorn Antelope around the area. Huge herds of them.

Custer State Park gets a vote from us also. A good chance to get up close to bison here.

When i checked the oil, it was a little low like maybe half a quart, but the filter had twisted in the canister. That was with roughly 5k miles on the oil.

I was bouncing of the limiter for about the same time as you, I guess we'll just see the damage on the lower end. A buddy of mine that was looking at it the other day said that it sounds pretty bad. He works at the Daily Driver out by 56th and hwy 2. He suggested a new motor, but it will all depend on what is all bad.

Wife in tow or not, there's a very good chance I'm going to make it to that one I got nothing going on that day as far as I know so I blocked the time off. We should set up a time and meeting place to get together

Car Show

I also signed up for the car show. Registration starts at 9am til noon and the first get a T-Shirt with registration. It may be cool to meet somewhere and enter as a group so we all park together. I would be in favor of that. Suggestion would be to meet 10:30ish and enter around 11 as a group. You are required to stay til 3pm once in so bring refreshments and lawn chairs.

Wait, sign up? I thought this was a walk-up event once you got into the botanical garden?

I read it as a spectator or participant event. I'm not sure if I'm going to enter my daily driver/motoring scarred MINI into the show but I will definitely be there to admire the other vehicles.

I hope to attend also. Sounds like fun. I plan on being there around 9am to get registered and for the shirt. Then, I'm all for meeting up someplace later to drive in together like smieska suggested.

How about meeting at the Rosenblatt parking lot or the Zoo parking lot?

Also, the cafe there also serves breakfast.

Great to see you guys going to the show at Lauritzen! My wife is the one that told me about, and since she's gotten into watching Top Gear lately, she is very excited about the chance to see some of the cars that will be there! I'm not sure I'll be able to make the meet up before the show, but I'll keep and eye out for you all inside. Weather looks like it could be great!

Jmike, Smieska, from the responses, I believe the two of you are the only ones who have signed your vehicles up and have a timeline for registering, etc. Whatever time works best for you works for me. I'm flexible.

I am pretty flexible but because we have to stay til 3pm I would prefer not to get there to early and thats why I suggested 10:30ish. I think if we get there by 10:30 we should still be able to get signed in, T shirts and go for Breakfast if we want. I am proposing we meet at Rosenblatt 10:15 and roll in by 10:30. Anyone have a better idea?
