When getting my intake (most likely an aFe Promini intkae) I was also planning on gettin on getting an "S" bonnet (mainly for looks because i have a reagular cooper)

would this be better or worse for the air flow of the intake??

would it actually make my car slower??

and if it would be worse to have the extra air coming in thru the scoop, would it be a good idea, to close off the scoop (from the inside) so no air goes in???

thx

A Cooper S hood can never be a bad thing for a Mini Cooper non S.
Leave the scoop open, that way more fresh (cold) air is forced into the engine compartment.

If you go for a new Cooper S hood, a carbon Cooper S hood is also an option.
There's a dealer over here who can get them at about the same price.

unless you have above avg skills to install a Carbon Fiber Bonnet, plan on spending another 500 plus to have a body shop do it. None of the CF bonnets I have seen come ready to bolt on. If you can find an OEM "S" bonnet it will be an easier job of installing.

The "S" bonnet will not slow down Justacooper, it will help lower the engine compartment temps big time. I enjoy mine.

Actually, there is a German supplier who has carbon Cooper S hoods that fit.
I believe there is also one in Holland.

They all "fit" but do they come out of the box ready to bolt on? If you have never worked with one it's hard to say, because they all claim to be ready, but I have not heard of one that really is ready to bolt up. Buyer beware.

Well, a guy asked his local tuner to import one from the supplier in Germany.
He said they didn't have any trouble installing it.
The installation was similar to the one of a stock Cooper S hood.

But I can certainly understand that many of them aren't easy to install.
But the one he got from Germany didn't seem hard to install.

Thanks for the info, but good grief! $100 bucks for a panel filter.

I have an R53 bonnet on my MC, and it is open to the engine compartment with the exception of a custom scoop grill from thegrillguy. I've never experience any adverse effects. I did it strictly for cosmetic reasons. It might reduce the flow thru the radiator a tiny bit, but not enough to impact engine temps significantly.

That said, if I could find a way to route the scoop intake over to the filter location, I'd do it and install a CAI in a heartbeat.

Well, the BMC costs more than the K&N, but it allows better flow and gets better numbers (the difference is very small in all honesty, but it's a difference).

Kind regards

I just installed an aFe. Sounds great. Pulls a lot harder too. I switch out between the Afe & a Pipercross Viper when i get bored or when one needs cleaning.
