I like the idea of a low pressure turbo with good torque all the way. But if I were to spend $10k I would make damn sure it's got more than 200hp. Otherwise I might as well trade the car in and get a brand new 07 Cooper S to begin with, with a 4 year warranty to boot.

I love my cooper so trading it in isnt an option. 10k isnt that bad.

I agree I love my cooper, and yeah I guess for that type of cash I probably would want 200+, however you said you were thinking of a top mount intercooler with an S hood. That is not part of my plan, part of my love for my cooper is the fact that I have a sleeker hood with no disfigured whole. I was thinking of running a custom FMIC similar to the one Tuls has showed off, just a more reasonable sized core.

The "S" hood doesnt bother me. Im going to have a custom carbon one made its going to be a Cooper "T" hood. as in Turbo.

Personnally I like no badges, keep people guessing, especially if you have a 200hp cooper

Im dead serious. this is going to be a work in progress. Im doing the interior, suspension, exterior, and brakes. That all will be done before the performance overhaul.

That's where I'm at. But, I'm almost at that point of doing the trans/motor. Just shy of some harnesses, CF bits and a steering wheel.

My project is a very LONG work in progress. I wish I could blow 10K on parts! The only thing I would want someone else to do is set up a custom ECU for a turbo. My long term goal is a beefy turbo setup. I would love to have over 300hp. I'm sure it's possible, just expensive. 10K in forged internals and other parts to get it ready for the turbo...then a lot more on the actual turbo.

My current plan is to just replace everything one part at a time with a much better stronger part...since my tranny seems to be making a little more noise and not wanting to go into gear lately, I think I will be doing that next.

I like my final drive though, I just want a tranny that can handle over 300HP. I'm pretty sure the uprated midlands will not do that. If you guys get any info on a very strong tranny...thats not too loud, let me know. I'll be glued to this thread for a while...and all 30 other threads on this topic from Jtrem and JuniorMint...jk

30 threads?! No, about 10-12 atleast As for a Tranny, I see the "S" tranny as your only option. It can handle the power. 300hp is going to be possible, but its gunna take sometime. The most I was told I could reliably pull out of my cooper with out going with an "S" engine transplant was 240-250hp. If you did a 250hp cooper with Nitrous..then yes 300hp is possible.

is that with MCS internals though or MC internals? You definitely can't get 240 with MC internals.

If you think about it, Tuls already has the 300+hp MC you guys are looking to build. His car is just as much an MC as anyone who takes their MC and adds an MCS tranny and MCS internals.

That's basically what I'm going to do...eventually. I'll put in the MCS internals and some forged lower compression pistons. The only problem is that I don't think an MCS tranny is going to be a bolt on tranny switch. I don't think it will line up. If my tranny goes...which I'm anticipating within the next 6 months to a year, I'm going to need a direct replacement. I guess when the time comes, I'll be dealing with minimaniauk. Maybe they can give me some other options...like a really beefed up midlands. I'm unsure about the dogbox thing...

but then, maybe I'll win the lottery...

yah i know.....but it shares every likeness to an MC engine that any turbo engine requires. So i think he reigns as the fastest turbo'd MC.

So the tranny is the weakest link, I dont ever auto-x or do track days, could I make my getrag last longer?

Well, I'm gonna assume that if you have a turbo'd or high HP cooper you are gonna be driving it "enthusiastically" at times even if you dont auto-x or track your car. So it will probably last longer than doing crazy launches at the drag strip....but its still weak

Don't get me wrong, it's bad @ss on the street/every day use, loads off fun, but for leisure only use (summer/weekends), I want something with more potential.
This is what Im scared of happening, but Im thinking that at that point I will just say hell with it and go turbo

I also have this crazy idea to buy a S engine and tranny and convert it to run NA, basically just use the machanical parts form the S but the software from the Cooper. Thats a pretty simplified summary but you get the idea. I like this idea because I could safely bet the living snot out of it with it NA or I could go turbo with out an issues.

So Im 98% sure that I am going ahead with fully building my cooper engine. Right now I am in the preliminary discussions with Lucky Dog Garage to have this done. Im am looking for performance close to a stock S and they say they can do it so I am very excited. We havent gone over details yet but Im pretty sure I will be rebuilding the internals as well as doing the usual mods, heads and cam, etc.

Your gonna have all that work done and they think that is the most power they can get out of it?.....

That is not all they think they can get out of it, I said thats what Im looking for, thats a minimum that I am looking for. I have however talked to them about doing this such as 6-speed swap
Talking to those guys they have been great about telling me different levels of mods I could do, going from basic head and cam to 6-speed swap to turbo's.
Right now I am thinking about doing the basic mods as well as the internals and 6-speed swap. Im thinking that this will give me a descent amount of power to play around with untill I can get the money to go turbo
