Gutted cat
There is a 02 sensor after the CAT, this sensor will usually throw SES/CEL lights without a good CAT.
Why not run a high-flow metallic CAT? I run this with a aftermarket header and have no problems.

Yes, the header and cat are one unit and come out together. Although if you just want to cut the cat off it would require special tools.

I'm sorry, I know that wasn't what you meant, but I let out a huge guffah when I read the original post, much to the chagrin of the cat (the feline variety) who had chosen that moment to try to insert herself between laptop keyboard and laptop screen.
...now I'm wondering if replacing her with a length of pipe would be an improvement... hee.

I also enjoyed the kitty post. I figure I should say something about the original question, though, since I have past experience with it. I never realized performance gains by removing catalytic converters. Most companies claim that their cats are no more restrictive than a length of pipe. The other draw back about removing them is the exhaust smell- without cats, the stink is enough to make people not want to follow. I recommend a muffler replacement. I once read on the world-wide site "MINI2", that a British shop cut open a stock non-S type muffler and they found the design horribly restrictive. I did the same and found that where the exhaust enters the final outlet pipe(out behind the car), there is only 1/4" space between the floor of the muffler and the opening of said pipe! I cut that section out and a couple other pieces and welded the top back onto the muffler. The result was more power, but not more noise(?!). If you want a good noise to go with a little more power, buy an aftermarket muffler. -Jeffy.
