6 Speed into a Cooper?
Has this been done before?
What year was the change over from the Rover transmissions to the Getrag for the COOper?

Yes, it's been done.
Yes, it's very complicated and expensive.

In 2007 both MCS and Cooper get a 6-speed Getrag box. Extreme, yes, but may still wind up being the best solution.

2005 model year Coopers received the new Getrag 5-speed gearbox.

Steve's Auto Clinic in L.A did one last year. The only real issue was a flywheel change as I recall.
