OBX Exhaust

Found this on Ebay for 125 bucks! I couldn't resist! Got kind of impatient waiting for the Megan system for 350... oh well... I saved 125 bucks! Doesn't it remind you of the Supersprint?

I heard good things about they're exhaust systems on other cars, great things about the header on our cars, but nothing on this exhaust, so I guess I'll be the first to review it.

Is this "cut and install" type or is it a true cat-back?

I'm not sure what to make of the angle of the exhaust tip. Does the muffler mount at an angle so the tip comes out straight?

I hope you can post a sound clip when you're done...

Here is the description:

- 2.25" piping and 4.5" tip
- SUS-304 full stainless steel
- One piece axle-back system
- Direct bolt-on without modification
- Gaskets and hardware included
- Dyno proven to increase horsepower
- Lifetime warranty from manufacturer defects

Right when I get it installed I'll record a sound clip. But the sound will be louder compared to exhaust + stock Cooper. So when I post the clip, as far as hardware is concerned, you will also hear:

K&N 69 Series Typhoon Short Ram Intake
M7 58mm Throttle Body
MTH Header and 400 Cell Cat

Judging from pictures, it looks really close to Supersprint's design so I think it should fit okay.

I was going to get the OBX header and this exhaust for X-mas. You beat me to it! I believe that you will have to cut and install a resonator/midpipe in there somewhere because I don't think the unit is long enough. But, that's not hard or that expensive. The Supersprint design of the OBX unit is identical. That's probably where they took the design cues from. I love Supersprint. Let us know what you find out.

Yeah, I was looking at the OBX header as well...do you think that it would fit a 2006?? They have them up on ebay as well and they say they are good up to 2005, but there wasn't much change between 2005-2006?? Is the OBX good for regular driving use, will you still pass an emissions test?

I will be very interested in hearing how you like the OBX exhaust Ranzo, it seems if you buy off ebay you can get the exhaust and header close to what Megan Racing is asking for just their exhaust...hmmm...

It will pass emissions with a cat. Or so I hear. YMMV.

I don't know about the header but for the exhaust it says it can fit 2002 to 2006. But I heard the hangers are different from from 2005 and up I believe.

It's a great deal hey? Just crazy how big of a difference of price compared to everything else out there.

I actually wanted the Supersprint first but I just couldn't justify paying $735 for it. So it's identical hey? Does that mean it will sound like a Supersprint?

And maybe perform like the Supersprint?

I was wondering about this exhaust, too. I was also thinking of going with a Magnaflow muffler from Summit Racing and having a muffler shop bend a new pipe to attached it to the stock pipe. Please let us all know how that OBX works out. Thanks.

I wouldn't go THAT far! I could put in the statement about "you get what you pay for" but for $400 for an almost complete system? Why not.

being an axle back I was curious about this too. I cant say aim a 100 percent happy with the looks of the magnaflow. The sound is great however. But I was thinking mabye keeping the resonator from magnaflow and sticking the obx on? I cant wait for that sound clip =]

Sound Clip!!!

OBX Exhaust

Start, idel and rev - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Fh6Da0OuiE

Cockpit, highway - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uJmlsBdaL0

Cockpit, various gears (conditions were pretty slippery due to snow so I didn't go hard but you ge the idea) - http://youtube.com/watch?v=LWo8eA184CQ

Compared with Supersprint...

http://www.motoringfile.com/2004/09/...sprint_exhaust

Pretty damn close if you ask me! I get what I pay for. For $125 I got a $700 to $800 sounding exhaust! Aggressive yet civil.

Excellent Quality!

Had to modify the brackets but it my be due to my Coopers model. Mine was a Canadian Launch Edition. Same problem with the Koni FSD. I had to get the Yellows instead.

Oh sorry I forgot to mention $700 - $800 Canadian. Yeah it's pretty nuts. Trade, customs and shipping ads up in the North... The higher end is retail markup if I got it from my local shop.

Your sound clips sound great. But it didn't cost $125. It cost $200 because of the exorbitant $75 shipping charge. This should cost about $30 to ship UPS, if that much. I recently sent a large heavy box of motorcycle parts from NY to ND for $25 with UPS. That system doesn't weigh that much.

I took the liberty of reading through the seller's feedbacks. This seller fits the type that usually sells a decent product, but if there is something wrong with an item, he sends it out, anyway, and then doesn't make it good if the customer complains. It's like he'll sell whatever he's got, good or bad.

I'll look around elsewhere for this system for my MINI. If more people did that then these 'don't give a crap about the customer' sellers wouldn't be in bizniz.

And that's my .16 bit.

Right! Forgot about shipping! So 200 bucks total for the system. My bad!

Well I had a pretty good experience with the Seller. Your talking about dailod (16499) right? 99.7% positive feedback isn't too bad. He actually gave me one of the best ebay experiences I've had so far. Replys to all my questions in a timely manner. Product came within a week!

I hate it when sellers don't respond to emails or product doesn't come until a month later. One time, the product didn't come at all! Wasted my time and money. I'm glad this transaction turned out so smooth.

Shipping is outragous but for $200 total for an exhaust is still a steal in my opinion.

Oh and this system won't fit on 05s and 06s by the way.

Chow!

I've been doing business on ebay for about 10 years. In that time, I have seen ebay go from an 'average Joe selling some stuff' bargain mecca to a greedy-business-seller-infested, semi-honest cesspool.

Yes, it's the same seller that says 'for the 02-06 MINI Cooper,' and you say it won't fit past '04.

99.7% is great, but I still read all the negative feedback. This guy has a pattern. If you had an '05 or '06, and ordered this item, and found it didn't fit, his past negative feedback leads me to believe you would've been stuck with it even though the seller made the error.

Ebay is full of sellers like this now. We all got by before ebay came along. After thoroughly checking them out by reading all the negative feedback and looking for patterns, I only buy from sellers that don't raise the hackles on the back of my neck. Definitely not a WTF mentality, but I hate getting ripped off.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll look out for this next time I buy something on ebay. I hate getting jacked. I got ripped of twice on ebay.

Yeah sure! Like an outside shot right? Full throttle or just normal driving?

Mabey some of both. I like the price, and will probabally get headers too, for the price they sell for on ebay. I just wanna hear driving hard, normal and WOT. Idiling and revving sound a lot different than normal driving. oh yeah, and does it give the cooper a little more "pep"?

I'll try to make a clip tomorrow. Part of the orchestra is a K&N intake, M7 throttle body, MTH header and high flow cat, so you won't be hearing just the exhaust.

Does it give it a little more pep? I can't really tell because I also put in an uprated gearbox, clutch and flywheel in as well. Increase in acceleration is apparent. It actually feels pretty quick! But not sure how much the exhaust contributed.

He guys - MCS owner here. Lots of threads on OBX header in MCS perf. section. Lots of guys are running it.

1) Mini Cooper stuff from OBX is cloned/copy of SS.
2) 200 bucks (including shipping) - is a great header price and the mid TQ is highly desireable and street useable.
3) Nice quality - fit and finish. Exhaust clamps are cheapies and suggest you replace.
4) in the MCS perf section there is a how-to grapgh stock cat to header.
