cooper s engine fitting soon!!!
Hi, been around on MINI forums for a while in the UK but thought id sign up here to try and get som information about what i am about to do.
I have just bought a full cooper s engine for my cooper and everything i need to fit it including new gearbox, just waiting for a new ecu now though!!
I just wondered if there was any threads on here where someone has installed the s engine into their coop and taken pictures of the progress of the process?
me and my dad will be fitting the engine and we both have a decent knowledge to be able to do it but i would really like to see and chat to someone that has done in and see their pictures aswell.
thanks in advance to anyone that can help
chris

What an interesting notion!
You got me thinking.....
Take the car somewhere to get the A/C system discharged. Then you can disconnect the hoses and really take the front end off more easily.
Actually taking the motor out shouldn't be that bad. Label everything! The only thing you will really run into that will be a pita is the fact that the Cooper has the battery under the hood, and the S has it in the back with additional cables and safety features (Explosive bolt module back at the battery). Take a look at the Deka (aka Braille) battery from Helix. It's very small, and has a very high energy density. You could find a place to tuck it pretty easily.
You'll also need an S hood to get the air for the intercooler.
There may be some features of the fuel delivery system that are different for the S as well. Don't know here but you have to check.
Good luck!

i have everything i need for the conversion, i wont need to relocate the battery box as i can situate the induction kit behind the battery box which a guy called paul has done with the s engine he has fitted to his mini one.
i already have the s bonnet aswell, i have had it on the car for quite some time and has helped with the induction cooling so far but will now be solely used to ram air to the intercooler which will now sit under it.
the air con radiator can be disconnected but it will drain when disconnected so will need to be refilled at some point, however this isnt essential in getting the engine up and running and is something i will do once the engine is back in and running fine. i dont use air con anyway as it uses more fuel and creates a lag in the power delivery. but i will get it working as i hate things that dont work or disfunctional when they should be working.
i will post pics of the conversion as im doing it and i might even make a little video of some of the fun we have doing it aswell.
