ITG vs aFe
ITG vs aFe
Hi all. I have a 2005 Cooper and am looking for an intake. I've narrowed it down to 2: The aFe Magnum Force vs the new MyMini ITG intake. My top priority is air filtration rather than HP or cost. I've read diffrent posts on which is better but...WHICH IS BETTER? Both systems are relatively new I think. Anyone with comments or thoughts ?
Cheers

Well I guess I'll go with the aFe Magnum Force then...after my warranty has expired if I can wait that long
. The aFe is less expensive and they claim an 8hp (Dyno proven according to aFe vendors) increase to the crank. ITG claims 5hp, costs $55 more. Thnks for the post.

Ah, that's much more clear - if you're worried about any impact to your warranty you need to be much more conservative in the mod department. Of course there are a few dealers who will blame any mod they can to avoid honoring your warranty.....it's really a cr@p shoot.....you roll the dice and.....
For many of us the warranty is well in the rearview mirror, so there are lots of things we can do if we want to spend the $$$.
I think my first mod was a cat-back exhaust. I thought it was odd that the tech stopped work as soon as he saw it to call in the service manager. After a bit of scrutiny, they then did the work and never mentioned it. I was too curious to let it go though so I asked what it was all about and was told that every time they spot a modification from stock of any kind they add it to their record - and then he said something like this:
"Let's say someone had an S and did one of those dangerous (his word, not mine) reduction pulley mods. If we were to notice it while he was in for something like an oil change, we would add it to the database. Then let's say he suffered some sort of engine failure and decided to should remove the reduction pulley before having it hauled in, hoping we would fix his "stock" engine under warranty. The first thing I would do is check the database, and when it tells me he had a reduction pulley I know what really caused the problem (again, his words, not mine). We then know we should deny the warranty claim since it was his fault rather than ours."
Anyway, the point is, SOME dealers are real @sses about mods. A tech once told me it was because their reimbursement for warranty work is less than their normal shop charge, so they don't like to do anything under warranty unless they have to. I don't know if that's true - it may just be another of many excuses.
