Sounds good. And, I hope it does.

Thanks again for thinking of us MC guys and I hope you sell lots.

Too bad you're in SoCal. I wouldn't mind being your test MC.

Sounds great to me! Especially the price (I'm a cheap SOB).

Must have missed this one, what is "neck after muffler to tip"?

Sounds like they've recanted the initial rejection of a removable tip (which would rock!)...?

You can either have the tip directly welded to the muffler so that you'd be able to see the muffler from the rear, or you can have a neck after the muffler that allows you to tuck the muffler into a more hidden position to the chassis. And then have the tip where you need it to be.

Cool?

If I'm understanding you correctly (not a foregone conclusion) You're talking about introducing another bend in the system? Also, how would a muffler be "tuckable" with welded hangers?
I'm confused. Then again, that happens a lot.

The bend would be extremely minimal and would not create much if any backpressure at all.

The muffler isn't "tuckable" It won't move, it will simply be tucked under and out of sight... permanently.

Settled...

Settled.

Now... here's the fun part.

I need a Mini Cooper. Local.

We're located in La Puente, so it's up to you guys to decide what local is going to mean.

Here's what happens...

1st Day - Mini Cooper comes in to our exhaust shop down the way. Cat-Back goes out and we custom make an exhaust system. Takes about 1.5-2 Hours. After that is created, the exhaust system is then removed and their OEM one is reinstalled. They go home EXACTLY the same way they came in.

30-45 Days goes by and we recieve a hard-prototype.

2nd Day - Mini Cooper comes to Megan Racing warehouse where we install the Cat-Back system. If the exhaust fits 100%, then they leave with the Cat-Back system installed. And we tell Factory... eeeyyyyy... make this.

30-45 Days later... Cat-Back's are up for sale.

Now... I need someone local and reliable. Spread the word if you must.

I think the best gains for the cooper would come from a tuned header. With our cars, breathing is where the power is at and the reality of a cat back exhaust is it only gives minor increases in power regardless of back pressure. There is more power to be released from the header and we already have some great choices in the cat back exhaust market. Saturation in a market drives prices down, and with the turbo cars on the horizon the Cooper performance market will slide off anyways. It would require some thought, rather than bending a few tubes to match, but if your going to put effort in designing something, atleast make it count.

I'm going to be Dynoing the Headers and Cat-Back on my MCS when I get it, but I am pretty sure I can manage a substantial discount for anyone who would like to Dyno their cars with our header and Cat-Back for the Mini Cooper when it comes out.

The headers were thought out quite a bit. Made sure the bends were smooth, the primaries not too big that they loose velocity. The straightest path possible initially when leaving the engine and then the smooth conjunction between the primaries which then lead to a larger diameter collector. We aimed for as close to equal length as possible. There were actually 4 prototypes for the Mini Cooper headers.

I wish I lived closer. I live in the SF Bay Area. However, if you don't get any takers, I will consider driving to La Puenta.

Don't forget that you may need to do some cold weather testing!

No takers so far. No one knows anyone local? We've had some intresting experiences with people living too far doing our testing, so we're really trying to get someone local if we can.

The sooner we get a fitment car, the sooner we get this out. Come on peoples.. help me out here.

How about a header with a proper flex joint and smaller, correct length primaries?

I'm thinking OEM diameter (36mm, I believe) and 22" primaries...

Curious as to where you got that "correct" number for the primaries?

An engineered guess, based on looking at the OEM manifold design and thinking through flows... And, evaluating the OEM head vs. ported and polished one and flow numbers...

I can't take credit for the engineered guess - that came from the guy that's helping me work over my head, a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, motor rebuilder, head re-worker and certified gearhead that grew up in a race shop (working on 4-cyl motors and Alfa stuff). Of course, that doesn't make it exactly "correct".

Dyno testing and several prototypes would be the best way to do it, but we're thinking 22" is about right... Currently, I think the Jackson Racing header looks quite good, but I'd still prefer to see a good quality SS flex joint instead of the ball setup... I'd like to see a really great 4:2:1! Unfortunately, there's not a whole lotta room to work with as I'm sure you're aware...

Flex joint as opposed to Ball setup? Like this...

That type of a flex?

Yeah - that one seems awful short, though... The MINI engine moves around quite a bit...

You wouldn't be willing to make a 200-cell cat in place of that straight pipe, would you?

How much would that add to the price?
