Save 32 lbs of weight - mod

Here's my contribution for the day:

Spare tire: 25.25 lbs
Jack and tools: 6.75 lbs

Weight savings: 32 lbs

Then, you need to add a little weight with one of these:

or

.

I'm getting this idea from the Cooper S guys who are giving up their crummy run-flats and just going with tire repair kits. Hey, why not us. 30 net lbs is pretty significant.

Of course, this is not for everybody. If you get frequent flats or do long trips, you'd want the security of that little spare.

Anybody do this or have experience using those flat repair kits?

Well I forced myself to do this since I got a dual exhaust system on the Cooper. But I carry the spare with me on really long trips out of cell phone coverage, and carry an air comrpessor and a can of tire-fix as well.

I yanked my spare and tools out since I mostly just drive around town and keep good tread on my tires. It doesn't concern me much, since I drove my MCS for 60,000 miles with regular tires on it. On my MC though, I'll re-mount the spare/tools for roadtrips.

I think I will do this next time I'm fiddling around (I'm due to rotate the wheels soon).

The one time I used my spare, I just never bothered to put it back on. I still have the tools in there, but I now keep a "15 Minute Smart Spair". Besides, the back end looks considerably cooler w/o the spare hangin'.

Wow, that's cool news. I didn't realize the spare weighed that much! I keep saying I'll do it someday, but since we take trips occassionally, I've hesitated. The trips are all fairly close though (within a few hundred miles), so still thinking about it.
