Cooper TB?

I'm looking into getting a throttle body for my cooper. Does anyone have comments to share concerning a TB on their cooper? Any harm done to your mileage? (gas prices....yikes ) I know of one person with an MC TB who absolutely loved the higher pitched noise of the TB when at WOT....any comments on noise too?

And lastly, who offers them? I know M7 has an MC TB...any other options out there? Maybe other tuners just dont list it, but do offer the service?

What size is the M7 throttle body? 62mm? I'm pretty sure that it doesn't matter as far as TB's are concerned, if M7 sells one for the Cooper at that size I'm pretty sure the Madness or Moss throttle body (can't remember the sizes but one I think was a 57mm and another was a 60mm?) would be just fine. If you can put on a 62mm here, why can't you buy the 62mm from someone else as it says for the S? I don't think the intake ports for the TB differ between the Cooper and S?

All I would be concerned about would be to NOT get a refabbed "bored" out stock throttle body with new butterfly flap.......seems like I would want to get a full billet cast TB.

Cheers,

nah...its not bored out that big. I believe having a TB that big would be bad for the cooper. Much like the MCS shouldnt go any bigger. I forget what exact size M7 goes with but its definitely lower than 62.

OOPS! :impatient Don't know what I was thinking, I guess its been awhile since I went MINI mod shopping across the internet. But so far the DINAN TB seems to be the cheapest at 399.00 with NO CORE CHARGE! You can get the stock unit bored out to 59.75mm with should be about right for a Cooper!

Sorry for the misstep......

Cheers,

Ok Mc....and you got the info from where......

If you bore our the MC TB to 59.75mmm and the outside diameter of the TB wall is 59.67mm, that would leave a - .08mm = no wall.
We bore ours out to close to 58mm and we add an angle in the throat to give better velocity and fill (velocity stack).
As for price our's is $349.00 with a core charge/exchange.

And by the way you can not use the MCS TB on the MC as they are not the same size, and not electronicaly compatible.

Like I mentioned before I got the info from DINAN.....

http://dinancars.com/MiniPrint.asp?prod=186

The info clearly states they bore out the Cooper S throttle body to 59.75mm. Must be talking about the "different" Cooper TB then........oh well.....so this info won't help out RallyMINI, but I just got some p's and q's mixed up thinking they were both the same...........

Just trying to help as I will soon need help of my own in my conversion and trying to find the best Cooper performance goodies......

Sorry again.........

Cheers,

Ok, so what kind of improvement would a larger TB make? More HP, torque, response? Any one with hard numbers, or at least something that is not a conjecture?

The big thing they provide you with is throttle response. Hp gain is about 2HP...but the big thing is the throttle response

We have seen better # with the MC TB then with the MCS version.
Expect up to 4 hp with no problem. With that said, it would be prudent
to add an exhaust and CAI, for better air/ exhaust flow.

Feel free to call us any time.....

I recently upgraded my MCS TB and saw a very noticeable improvement in throttle response and torque. I noticed very little hp gains, but I wasn't after hp with this mod anyway. I was actually quite surprised at the torque improvement and no, i do not have a dyno sheet showing the actual gain. But, the strong tug I get when coming out of a turn laying on the gas is all the proof i need right now

My only negative commments about moving to a larger bore TB was the yo-yo effect and a dead spot between 2800-3200 rpm. Both are much more pronounced now and can be felt by all passengers. I guess the goal now is to pass 4000+ rpms as fast as possible

Can anyone confirm tha tthe MCS throttle body will fit and work on the MC?

I know that there are tons of sources for such a swap. Tons of MCS owners going to larger bodies. Should be a good supply for people like me!

the MCS and MC throttle bodies are not interchangeable...different sizes.
