Hello. I am new to this board however I have been looking around for quite a while and decided recently to join.

I am going to purchase a New Mini during the course of the next few months. I am contemplating whether to get the standard mini or the 'S'.

Is there any Turbo Kit for the Cooper ? Are there any links ? Any plans for one ?

Also, if there sin't a turbo could I get a supercharger for the cooper later on ? any examples ?

And one more thing - what is the cheapest way to make either model have over 210 hp ? is this possible ?

Have you heard of any V12 conversions (lol just kiddn... .but wouldn't that be sweet ??)

do they make a RWD platform for it ? Thanks alot for any help you may be able to provide. I know I asked so many questions but i am very eager to learn more about it (i am deciding between this or a miata... both small, lightweight, but the miata has RWD., and i know a turbo kit for an easy bolt on 245 hp. however, that costs at least 2500 more + mods.)

I have talked to one guy on the Mini2 Forum and he staes that you can get 200 hp easy with Exhuast , air filter and chip in a Cooper S. With head work, probably 220. I know Helix 13 is testing a pulley and they are going to let the forum know what kind of power it makes.

There is a comapny called Mini Mania that has a turbo kit availible for the regular cooper.

There is also a Mini cooper S that runs a runs a 50hp shot of Nitrous near me. I have heard that it beats Porsche Boxster S's and Mitsu 3000 gt vr4's with ease.

Looking for V12 eh?

Look towards the NEW Mitsubishi EVO 2 door coupe... It is MINI-esque and holds a Mean V8

Or the Reanault CLIO... A Mini Cooper Smasher in the same class...

If speed is what you seek... go for the gusto, get a Ferrari (oops this is a no win statement!)

Mini is cool on it's own....the Mini will have to chase the competition, but it will look good doing it!

vdubdug, do you know the guy running nitrous? I'm trying to decide which version to buy and what mods to do. Nitrous was one of the higher up mods on my list and I was wondering what sort of things he ran into and which version he would recommend. If there's not much performance difference after the Nitrous then I could get the base model and save some money for mods.

You want the MCS for the following reasons.
-you like horsepower
-the MCS has low compression heads from the factory, which allows you to run boost
-the MCS has a stronger, 6 speed transmission. I believe the MC's 5 speed can only handle ~150 hp, but I'm not positive.

The Mitsu Evo 8 is pretty cool, but have you seen the new Subaru Impreza STi? 300hp/300 foot pounds available this summer. Not to dissuade you from the Mini - a stock MCS would probably be enough fun for me - but you're the one who brought up V12!

Do what you want but I'd never turbocharge the Mini unless you are looking for problems and just have $$$ to throw away! Just save yourself some grief and pay the extra 3G for the MCS. The MCS will be worth much more down the road than any severly modified MC. Read THIS for info on how the MCS engine is better made for boost.

Great link, Orbhot! Thank you.

One benefit to turbocharging over supercharging is that a turbo creates less parasitic load. Another benefit is that it is easier to tweak the boost. As to whether or not one could shoe horn a T3/T4 hybrid, I have no idea...

neither the MC or MCS are rockets...just enjoy the mini for what it is, a fun, great handling car....if you need more acceleration...go buy the new Neon which my son is drooling for..I was going to give him my MCS after graduation this coming spring, but he laughed and said if I did, he would immediately trade it in for the new Neon, laugh....kids, no romance, just speed !

MCS is the way to go. It's not a V12, but rated the best handling car by Road & Track at this time.

If your son is into speed that much, he should get a LS1 as nothing can beat their bang for buck
This coming from a 20 yr old who's had the 300hp numbers in a Front wheel driver and its not very fun spinning both wheels coming out of a turn  I have driven a Evo 5 and older STi's in europe, and they were a blast! Definately not something I want to drive everyday though.

Btw- you could turbocharge a Mini, as everything is possible with money.

MCS not a rocket?!?! If you're looking for straight line performance you may be right... but at the track it's a different story and I'll bet the MCS would kill any factory Neon on the right track.
Check out this quote from Grassroots Motorsports magazine:
"We did some baseline testing, running several laps at Central Florida's Ocala Gran Prix, a 6/10-mile kart track featuring speeds and turns much like those found at an autocross. In bone-stock, as-delivered condition, we turned consistent 40-second laps in the Cooper S--about a full second quicker than some modified Porsches."
