Aftermarket intake issues on 2005 MC

I ordered a Moss MINI intake for my MC. So I get the old one off and find that the aftermarket version's engine mount bracket won't even come close to the place it is supposed to be attached. Great-now I can't drive the MINI until I get something that fits. Hopefully the K&N version will work.

What really gripes me is that I specifically asked if the Moss would fit a 2005 MC and they said "yes." Then, when you get everthing out and have to rely on the product it doesn't work!

AAAAGGGGHHHH!

My question is, why would you order a Moss in the first place?

K&N won't work either, the motor mount on the '05 is different due to the Getrag tranny used in the '05s. Also the stock airbox is different than previous years, so all the drop ins out there will not work for '05s either.

I guess I ordered it because some NAM members had good results with it and had posted a how to which was reasonably accurate to follow, except of course for the final step which I couldn't complete!

Guess I'll have to replace the original filter box apparatus, shouldn't be too hard I just need a new gasket tightening device thing.

As of yesterday K&N Filters lists an avialable drop in filter for '05 Coopers. Part number 33-2270. If anyone decides to give it a try before I get to it next weekend, please post your results.

Heh, yes they do, and so does ALTA in some places, however, the filters they have are rectangles, the '05 is not a rectangle (more of a rectangle with a corner cut off.

As of 1 week ago, K&N, ALTA and Green Performance (called them all) do not have a drop-in available for the '05 MC. Alta says that if the current design stays in effect for 6 mos, they will make on for the MC. However we are 8 mos into '05 production and they still haven't made one.

Well that sucks. Curiousely, K&N did not show any product available as of about 2 weeks ago. I just checked their site on a whim last night. Maybe giving them a call is woth a shot.

Possibly another call is in order, however, if you look at the vehicle applications for Part number 33-2270 it shows an MCS, not the MC. Also the product description shows dimenssions as being a rectangle, which the '05 MC is not.

We're talking about an MC not MCS. '05 MC has a new tranny, so a new engine mount that blocks all the intakes made currently.

NOT an MCS!!!

'05 MCS is the same as '04

ITG filters are very good; they are well respected in the BMW crowd. I had an ITG drop-in filter on my ole' 3-series.

Hey, ESE is having a sale on the Alta intake. After reading this thread, I'm wondering if anyone can confirm whether or not I'll have problems fitting the Alta on my 2005 MCSa?

On the 05 MCSa, there are two openings on the intake hose that goes from the filter to the throttle body, so the Alta intake does require a T-Fitting. (unfortunately, not yet available with the Alta intake, but can be aquired at any parts store)

k&n typhoon looks ok

I looked at the tech specs on the k&n website and had a vendor tell me that there should be no problems with the typhoon as it doesn't mount to the transmission. I should be getting mine soon, so I will post if it fits or if it doesn't.

The Typhoon won't fit. (I hope I am wrong) It doesn't mount to the tranny. The problem is that with the new tranny in the '05 MC, MINI (BMW) moved an engine mount, and put it right in the way of where most intakes would go. This also caused a change in shape of the stock airbox, which is why ALTA, K&N and Green drop-in Filters won't fit.
