rotor question :)
Hey guys I'm about to change the brakes on our 2006 mini cooper, has about 65k miles and was wondering if I had to change the rotors aswell and the sensors ? Or just the pads ? Thanks so much
It is SOMETIMES possible to reuse the sensor...but at about $18, not much of a savings....
Or you can just bypass it...some do...some risks ..
As for rotors...
Only difinitive answer is they must be measured....
With a OEM pad, they will be at wear limits....
With "rotor friendly" aftermarket pads, you might get 2 sets of pads....
Generally it is best to machine the rotors to make them smooth...they are them measured...
Since a typical rotor is $65 each, and GOOD pads are $100+ a pair...and if you reuse a rotor, and have it warp, you need new pads, many choose to just go new.....
Going cheap often results in having do do it a second time, with ALL NEW ANYWAY...

With an 06 if the light isn't on you don't need to change the sensors, you can reuse the pad sensors.
But if those rotors have 65k on them you need to replace them as they are just not made thick enough to last that long. We have some cost effective rotors and since your in the military we can ship USPS to your APO.
