Finally got a Mini!

From the time I was a kid (many moons a go...), I had always wanted a mini-cooper (granted they were nothing like they are today- modernized). I had owned Porsches, Volvos, Peugeots, BMWs, Datsun Z cars and the list goes on... Last month, I decided it was time for me to get another project car- something I could daily drive back and forth to work (80 mile roud trip daily), so- I needed something good on gas. Long story short- an elderly local just happened to have a super very clean 2009 Mini Cooper Base for sale. After looking at it- I knew that I was finally going to be a Mini Cooper owner! Granted- its not the S, but- I was after fuel economy anyway so this was a perfect deal! 41,000 miles- documented BMW routine maintenanced. Chili Red with White top and graphics. Wife is not crazy about the graphics- but, that isnt up to her!

First order of business- was to get the windows tinted farther- Brutal South East Texas Summer heat- need all the help you can get to keep temperatures down inside the car. I added an additional 2 layers of limo to the rear windows and did a triple layer across the front of the windshield to help aid in keeping the inside cooler.

2nd order of business was the open up the breathing of the engine a little bit. Ordered and installed AIRVIP2.5. Working on getting better exhaust. Also, plan on upgrading the brakes and suspension.

It came with the paddle shifter steering wheel- only used paddle shifter once just to try it out. going to take some getting use too.

You will love your MINI. I too have owned various "drivers" cars, porsche, bmw, rx/7 and the MINI is my favorite.

Good luck and continue to post pictures of your mods!

Welcome to the club, and enjoy the car! It's very nice by the way. In terms of opening up the breathing of the engine, I would recommend the JCW grill. The original grill is just not as well ventilated as the JCW. I bought it from Out Motoring a couple of years ago. Happy Motoring!

Thank you for the input. I will be looking into a different Grill.
