My 2005-510 was leaking coolant on the garage floor. Facing the engine the coolant was dripping from the right side. The shop replaced the thermostat which is on the right side for $300. They also say the water pump was showing minor signs of fluid leak and should be replaced. There has been no fluid leak on the garage floor from that side of the car. Replacement cost estimate: $850. I am questioning the water pump replacement. What do you think?

 

Minor signs do not necessarily mean puddles on the floor.

Could be just whitish buildup at seam....Maybe have it done with other maintenance / service to cut labor costs ?

If you trust their opinion, yes.
it is likely they are refering to leaking around the weep holes, indicating a failing seal on the shaft.
nobody can realy tell you if it really needs to br checked without looking. The price seems kinda high....
