Hey buddy,
im no mechanic but i know that it could be the low speed fan resistor. what you can do to monitor the actual temperature (its in celsius i beleive) is put the key in the ignition @ the zero position, then hold the stub on speedometer. move the key to right before ignition then let go and youll see numbers, go to 19 and leave it there. then it will toggle from on and off, select off another set of numbers appear starting @ 0. Go to 7 and start the car and you can monitor the temperature rather than looking at that dummy needle.

I currently have the same problem and i know i need to switch out the thermostat and get a resistor of the same kind but higher in quality and do the soldering myself.

i havent fixed any of it yet but when i go stop and go traffic i put on the a/c and the high speed fan comes on and keeps the temp between 93 and 96 and cycles back down.

btw, if you set up your car to observe temp heres what youll notice... regular operating temp for low speed fan is between 93 and 96.

if it heats up past those numbers once it hits 108 then the high speed fan comes on and goes up to 112 and cycles back down. very scary stuff.

i also have my coolant reservoir tank over flow (then goes back to empty) if i let it heat up.

do this at your own risk!

Bubbles in the radiator line can cause it not to pump fluid properly. The other thing is if your water pump fails, you won't have the fluids moving through your engine block.

Bet the powersteering fan is jammed...blowing the fuse that it shares with the radiator...this was changed on2005+ cars...
does tha fan EVER TURN ON?!
With the infamous low speed resistor blown, the fan still will run preventing the car from overheating.
Solution..short term...unplug thr ps fan, replace fuse...then order a ps fan, install it ASAP...easy diy.

I wonder if your engine temperature sensors are failing and not properly starting the cooling phases soon enough. If you can, hook up a monitor to the ODBII jack and watch the engine temps. I _think_ you should average 210-230F (98-110C) unless you switched to a lower temp thermostat. I've read somewhere you can see the temps (in Celsius) on the display, but forgot where and what the sequence of buttons was to hit.

You said the water pump has been replaced. How long ago? By you, or by a dealer, independent garage? Sometimes you can get air trapped in the system, causing overheating.

Probably worked the air out of the system. Glad to hear that it is not overheating anymore.

If you still have the motor exposed try tapping on it. Others have had luck making it work without removing the door panel with a swift punch right were the motor is mounted. And although I cannot recall the specifics, there are threads on here which detail repairs for that problem. Try searching with google, using North American Motoring and the search term and you might actually find more relevant posts then using the search feature here on NAM.

I do it all the time. I posted it on my first post on this thread.

If you look at the other people with coolant/fan problems youll notice there is typically a mention about how that is a 'dummy needle'
