I've had my MC since May and til this day... Every time I pull up to the gas pump, I look for the gas cap release latch.
Does this happen to anyone else? I came from a Lexus GS300 but switched to MINI because I moved to an area where parking is virtually next to impossible after 7pm. Just not used to not having the release latch.
No, i came from 11 years of driving Jeep Wranglers. But I do believe that they lock when the doors are locked.
Yeah.. I learned that too the first time I filled up. I got out of the card and locked the car to go into the station. Came back out to fill up and couldn't get the gas cap open so I unlocked the car and went inside to search for the release latch.
Well, I learned something new - I've never had the car locked when I fill up so I never knew the gas cap locked. At least now I know that no one can siphon my 13.6 gallons!
my last car was a Mustang and it had the same manual door on the drivers side. I only get severely confused in my fiances Corolla that has that stupid lever to pull. I almost always get out without pulling it... same with the trunk... uggh
With so many long threads here about power lock failures with the doors, I have to ask, is there an emergency manual release latch for the fuel door somewhere? Kind of like there is one for the rear hatch under the rear seat?

On a gen1 mini you have one...not gonna say where in a gen2 forum!!
Actually I kinda forgot, honest. I think it is a cable hidden in the interior sidewall...behind the speaker, so a tool is really needed to get to it..so usable if the lock fails, but you really need to plan ahead.

Reason: spelling
There is a fuel hatch release cable (actually plastic) hidden behind the carpeted panel on the left side of the boot. It's the panel you would remove to access the left tail light to replace a bulb. No tools required.
...this happens to me sometimes...I've had my r50 for like a week now...moving from a '94 civic...Still getting used to it.And yes the gas cap is locked when doors are locked

Good to know I'm not the only one that this has happened to.
EDIT: After posting this thread, it hasn't happen since.
Actually, I have the opposite problem. I had two MINIs back to back ('03 and '07) and now motor in a different mini-car and completely forget that it has a fuel door release!!!
I lurk here only because I am presently stalking the MIN-i city car.
