Question about swapping my grill.

I was hoping to find some info on swapping my factory grill on my 09 mini with the grill in the link. As you can see I have the factory driving lamps installed as well, does this mean I would want the Cooper + Clubman WITH brackets? will these brackets worth the factory ones I already have? Also if I did preform this mod would it void my warranty? ( I wouldn't think it to... )

my mini

the grill I am interested in

Thanks!

I have the JCW grill and it made a 100% difference on my car! I did it on my own with one minor scratch to the paint. I would not think that it would void the warranty because mechanically you are not doing anything to the car. (Check beforehand!) Not sure about the clips. Post pictures! I would love to see them!

Miniutias PM had a slight miscommunication which still has left with me with no answer to this. Would anyone else know?

I would give Outmotoring a call (their number is right on their website) and ask them - they would know for sure.

I swapped the grille on my Cooper. VERY easy. It won't void your warranty, you're not doing anything that would effect the performance of the car. If anything, you're getting better airflow to the engine with the new grille.

Not totally sure about the driving lights, but I think the "With Brackets" means there is a precut hole in the grille for the brackets to go through.

I would definitely email OutMotoring first but I'm 99% sure I'm correct.

After calling OutMotoring I have learned that the Grill with brackets means that there are brackets pre fabricated onto the grill for the driving lamps and costs : $109.95, but I was also informed that if I purchased the regular grill for : $55.95 I could Dremel cut it to fit the brackets I already have. I do fancy my self capable of doing the cutting my self to save the money but now I'm not sure if I like the look better. I'm torn. Here is a quick and dirty photoshop of what it should look like.

What it looks like now:

what it should look like after:

I honestly hate the look of the "gills" stock grille on the non-S. Swapping the grille was the first thing I did to my car when I got it. But obviously, to each his own.

With the new grille my gas mileage also went up a TINY bit, maybe due to the better airflow??

I'm glad you did that photoshop because we have the exact same car and I've been curious what a black grill would look like.

It will not void the warranty. Now if the part you buy and install breaks, MINI wont cover it, but the rest of the car and the original grill will be still under warranty. It would be a great idea to keep the original grill just in case.

The actual install is so easy that a small child could easily perform it. Just be careful and you wont snap anything plastic. Other than that, its a breeze.

I did it on mine, it does take some pulling to remove the tabs off to take the stock grill off.. it should take you no more than 15 min to do the install..

take a look..

Looks awesome! I ordered mine last week but they are out of stock, however they will have more on thursday. So I'm hoping to do my install next week, I do think it will take me longer than 15 min since I have the driving lamps to remove and reinstall doesn't look to hard though.

Am thinking of doing the black pre-cut grill for my 08 Cooper so I can mount some driving lights as well. Where did you find a grill for 55.95? all the ones I've seen cost twice that at least! Also, how hard was the wiring for the driving lights?

The one on OutMotoring.com is $55.95, but it's not precut. You can get the one with the brackets for $109.95. If you get the precut one with the driving lights from VIPCustomParts.com, it's 90 extra bucks. I have yet to see a precut grille for that cheap either, they're usually quite a bit more.

I think if you use the drop down menu where you select your car model at Outmotoring you have a choice of: with or without brackets.

Would a Clubman-S or a Cooper-S honeycomb mesh grill fit on a Non-S?

Basically what I'm asking is if I bought the black honeycome grill off a Cooper-S or Clubman-S, would it fit my Non-S?

No, it won't. You have to get one specific to your model.

The grills for the "S" models have different mounting holes. They won't work on the justacoopers.

I know this because I bought the wrong grill when I first went to replace mine.

Crap so basically I have to get the JCW one for $60. Or get super lucky and get a non-s one.

Very nice. I didn't get the driving lights, but they're really growing on me!
