R50 Clutch replacement

It doesn't need it now (knocks on wood) but sooner or later, it will. I know pretty much what I want clutch wise but have 2 questions. 1, does anyone have any reccomendations on who makes a good Stage 1 clutch? I don't need anything outrageous. It's a DDM and a Borla, thats it. And 2, what have you done with the flywheel? OE replacement? Gone to aluminum? Or just have the factory FW cut?

Do you have any driveablility complaints about the Fidanza? The OE flywheel weighs, what, like 18lbs? So going to 13 shouldn't make too much of a difference right? I hear horror stories of a lightweight flywheel being a nightmare to drive but I think that's going from the DM on the R53 to a SM and dropping 20lbs off the flywheel.

As far as I know the OEM Cooper flywheel weighs like 34lbs. Im sure it was misquoted but not by much. The Fidanza flywheel and clutch isnt in my Midlands. Its waiting to be coupled with my 6-speed so I couldnt tell you how it drives. I just need 1/2 shafts...

The R53 flywheel is a dual mass and weighs about 34lbs. The R50 flywheel weighs in at about 18-20 I believe. Am I wrong here, any takers?

Yeah, the r50 one is much lighter. It is not that much of a weight reduction, so there probably will not be too much difference over stock in performance or driveability. But from my research into this, I believe that most aftermarket lighter flywheels are actually similar in price to OEM if not cheaper. If the flywheel needs to be replaced, then you might as well get something better than oem.

^^^That's what I thought. And I'm one of those people who believe if a clutch is swapped, then you either cut the flywheel or go new. Andif there's going to little weight change in OE to aftermarket Al, why not go aluminum? Yeah, to get one cut is maybe $100 compared to 350+ for a new Al one but it's kinda like cutting rotors. Which I don't do, either.

You want clutchmasters. They make good stuff.
