Engine Damper
Here's a picture of the bushing (?) that it sits on. One thing to add here is that I have never felt the hesitation from full stop that others have written about. The Mini was in the shop for a transmission replacement (under warranty! see: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...14#post2204214 ) and I had a loaner Mini. ON this car the initial hesitation off the line was very obvious.

It is part of the engine mount/suspension system.

The black "pillow" is the engine mount. That doesn't need to be changed. Has nothing to do with limiting fore and aft movement. The bushings are part of the first two pic's. The two pronged bar is attached at either end to the parts that would be replaced with the new bushings. There is also a similiar part under the car that actually does the majority of the work of limiting the engine movement.
Brilliant. Thanks folks. So the followup question then is whether it makes sense to purchase an engine damper. From other pics it appears that I would have to remove this part of the suspension system in order to install a damper. ?

I installed mine and love it. The only thing at idle inside the car the engine makes a medium pitched noise / vibration. I'm ok with that if that is normal? With the radio on you can't really here it. Thoughts...
