Update!

My dealership contacted Mini Canada and a new transmission and clutch assembly is being sent and installed under warranty. There was no back and forth, no argument, no "proving" anything. It's quite simply just being done.

I will only have to pay for the clutch pad (?) if it's terribly worn.

One sad and hilarious thing (if the two can actually co-exist) was that I was asking what transmission would be installed since mine certainly has a Midlands and I would like to know if an old new stock Midlands is being put in or a Getrag.

I might as well have asked her if my poobles would be bong bong when I sang nicky-noo with the crabster whips. (and you gotta know they would be. Those zany poobles of mine! )

I'm a university instructor and I spend hours keeping up with the research in my field, going to conferences, discussing recent discoveries and theories with colleagues, taking journals out of the library, buying relevant books and so on. These people don't seem to know a Mini Cooper from page 9. Sad not hilarious that one.

Anyway, gift horse in the mouth and all. New tranny is on its way. I'll keep y'all posted.

 

The replacement will be a Midlands. The Getrag takes a number of different front driveline parts.
Another question: What weather conditions, namely air temperature, did your noise occur?

 

Midlands eh? How distressing.

It's been winter here since I bought the car so air temperature has been anywhere from 25 to 50 F.
