Hi..

Tested my new air intake (bmc cda) with the "der abt setup" and i absolutely loved it.......

I have made a lot of mods in my car and excluding the ecu tuning this was the mod that i noticed a big improvement(and i already had the KN panel filter)...

Outstanding!

The car is faster it revs very very freely... and the noise.. oh my god!! and having the cooper S throttle body... the noise must be better compared to the stock one...

i pushed my car very hard yesterday and i had a top speed about 235kmh(with a slight inclination).

Maybe ill post the video later!!

235kmh;;;;; WOW. Was this on a downhill? Have never seen more than 220kmh (stock car)

Just need the sticker saying.. "Tuned by Der ABT"

Even so i am going to try to upgrade it even more...

I have a question for you der abt...

What have you done with the original air intake that goes to the filter housing?

I removed the front plastic so it can cool down the engine, especially the intake manifold... but has i was following the unused air intake tube i noticed that it goes somewhere near the left wheel of the car ... i 1st thought it was to cool down the brakes or something.. but no... i don't have any idea for what that pipe is used for... and i am tempted to take that off so i can have more space for the engine to cool down!!

That is the resonator, it does absolutely nothing except making the factory airbox quieter....

Hence the sound associated with any of the Cooper intakes.

It has two functions, it's a resonator box, but it is also used as a small reservoir for filth (very little amount) that comes through the intake scoop in the middle and continues to go through the stock setup.

Don't worry about it.

ok!

So i am going to remove all that...

i noticed that just removing the stock air scoop under the bonnet made my engine cooler(the indicator showed it!!).

THe cooler the better!

I'm back =) and i need your help.. i will very very soon order my camshaft and headers and i am looking for power at high rpms(since i have the cooper S gearbox).... and also going to put cooper s valves for reliability.

What would you guys think is the best?

Just for you guys to know... i have dynoed the car with the mth tuner(98 octane fuel) software when i had kn panel air filter and almost dead spark plugs...

Realisticaly in the dyno its around 122\123(the dyno showed 130)
After that i installed
Cooper S fuel pump
Cooper S throttle body
Cat removal
BMC Cda(Der abt setup )
Cooper S gearbox

Maybe in the 130\135 area now....

with the parts mentioned above and a fine tuning( with air\fuel mixture corrected) and also with combination of the cooper s fuel pump... i Think i will be very near 150bhp barrier....

Dont you think? or am i dreaming high?
What else can i make to my car to extract more power without putting ITB's or turbos?

I have a cooper S head ... how about port and polish it?

Give this guy a shout:
http://revolutionmini.com/
He could hook you up with a cam and a header that will be matched together and work great with your other mods.

Make a regular thread in the forum. Not much attention gets around in here. Or send a PM to Jan and see what he has to say. Price compared to quality and performance, he's gonna be number 1.

ItaMamuel,

Very good setup you have there.
It's very difficult to speculate on the numbers, my advice would be the following, do a dyno run before and after the software tune.
To get to 150hp, I do think a cam and head are going to be a must.

If you are looking for cams that add power in the high rpm range, Schrick is the way to go.
But there are other brands out there that cost less, and provide power and torque throughout the entire rev range.
Make sure you also check out Catcams and Kent cams.
These two brands are also known for their quality and good price.

You could do some head work as well, but it really depends on the choice you make.
You could polish the stock head (and some parts inside the engine), but it's going to cost a lot of money and you won't gain a lot of hp (people who have done this saw gains from 3hp to 5hp).

If you really want more hp, I would suggest that you add one or a combination of the following mods :

-cam
-complete exhaust (header, sportcat., mid-pipe, cat-back)
-new head
-custom software (for all your parts)

Kind regards

Der Abt

Thank you!

I will do that.. it is in my plans...

BTW... is it possible to use cooper S pistons on my mini one?...

And how about ( i am for sure ...using the wrong word), rectify the pistons?

Cooper S pistons aren't worth it as they'll just lower the compression. If you want a performance solution, check around to various vendors and see who offers what. Really, an N/A Cooper isn't going to make enough power to need a better rotating assembly. A Cooper S, it can happen but not an NA car.

I was only thinking about reliability!

That's why i am putting the cooper S valves...

I've also heard about other cooper s components(Especialy regarding to lubrification)....

Any tips about reliability parts i can transfer from a cooper S ?

BTW.. i will soon make a rolling road session...

Lets se what i got!

I honestly don't think making the swap would be worth it on pistons. For it to really work properly, you'd have to swap the oil squirters over, as well. It could probably be done but again, probably not worth it. If you're going ***** to the wall, go aftermarket and buy a set of JE's or call Jan about a set of CP pistons.

Actually using the Cooper S pistons, will hurt performance. First reason they are heavier, second reason, they will lower the compression to 8.5:1 or so.

The S oil squirters are a good idea, only with forged light weight pistons, and Cooper S rods.

Though, the Cooper S pistons are a nice addition if you plan to "spray it "

Had my Mini One at Minisport at the weekend. The exhaust was blowing badly at the pre-cat flange and there was no mechanic there to fix it.
Anyway it dyno'd at:
138.5 bhp @ 6510rpm
113 lb-ft @ 4910rpm

Mods (by me) are: Janspeed/GTT Manifold, Miltek catback, Pipercross Viper CAI, Pipercams road cam, Minipowerprog remap

Not too shabby. Once a head is added it wont be far from the mystical 150

dear jan, I now love you. I'm curious is this also the car with the high compression pistons? what would we be looking at running stock compression? and do you have a relative price nailed? thanks :tu:

I'm sure we will be building a normal compression car at some point, I had orders to make some high compression stroker engines for some Race MINI's overseas. This was for a specific racing class. Like I said I believe there is more in the engine with the right tweaks. No pricing yet , I need to nail down some of the costs but it will be very similar to the regular stroker price.
