why would you have to have it tuned after an exhaust install? i am having mine done (megan racing MINI exhaust system) in a few weeks by danny at minicorsa (very good reputation), and asked him about this and he said it doesn't make sense. he has also done a head, cam and exhaust on a single cvt MINI with no issues whatsoever.

i'm not trying to sway (no pun intended ) from doing upgrades to your cars handling on the road. quite the contrary as we know that is where this vehicle shines. BUT, if you want the sound, a little better throttle response and POSSIBLY a SLIGHT increase in power - i do not think you'll have issues. assuming you are taking the MINI to a reputable knowledgable MINI mechanic even if you DID have an issue with a cat back and CVT, they should remap the cvt at no cost. these are questions you would want to ask.

anyhow go for the suspension mods and adding an exhaust if you have really thought about that- i would go for that later down the line.

i'm actually doing mine in the reverse. CAI and exhaust, then new wheels and tires, then a few suspension upgrades. not dropping the vehicle height though. have fun!

I talked with my Dealers MINI Tech about the above issues and he said

"Installing a CAI and exhaust, that's no problem. If you were to install colder plugs, MSD ignition, or different injectors, then we'd need to adjust the motor."

To hear how great the Megan sounds visit my site for a sound clip.

Exhaust, Intake, Jan RMW Tune, rear sway bar, fix IE camber plates, HSports & FSDs. Get all the parts used.

$200 exhaust
$50 HAI intake
$350 tune
$100 sway bar
$180 front camber plates (new)
$75 Hsports
FSD's will throw you over budget at $600 but worth while.
Look for 15" wheels at Edgeracing--I bought my Flik Fuels in Gloss Black for $70 each + tires were like $50 each.

Like I said, get the parts used..if a new Cooper exhaust goes for $350 to $400, you're going to find a used one for half that. I got my Remus exhaust when they were clearing out the '02 to '04 models for like $200 new--course that deal isn't around anymore, but there must be used Cooper exhausts if you look hard enough.

One more thing.... You will need an alignment. Pick specs that do what you need.

19mm H&R rear sway bar! Dark Tint or/and MINI shades for the rear side windows and rear window. I know how hot it gets in your home town!!
Prima or Zaino polish to get some good UV protection on that paint. Clear bra for sand protection.
