Coilover question

Are coilovers for an S different than coilovers for a Cooper (non-S). I am looking at a few different brands, but was told by one vendor that the coilover I was interested in would only fit an S. I was under the assumption that the two were the same.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

fitment is the same, both coilovers I have run came off of s models. however springs rates may be different along with dampening if you do come across an r50/r53 specific coilover due to weight. however im not aware of any?

Thanks folks. I have been looking at the Tein SS with the EDFC units and found a set at a great price but the vendor said they wouldn't fit a Cooper. I'll try a different vendor.

i heard the same thing about the tein SS units from another justacooper owner, they are the only ones though. i have no idea what actually makes them not fit though, i can't think of anything

They should be exactly the same... We've noted no differences... Shrug?

how Ironic... I have the tein ss with the edfc on my cooper....(no problems?) came off a cooper s, they are stuper duper stiff. Could be the spring rates were softer for the cooper?

Awesome! I really like that setup. Were you able to fit front camber plates on with the EDFC units? If so, which brand?

well, from what I can tell the fixed IE plates "should" work . Im getting them soon and I will let you know. They are more or less around stock so they should work. I dont think you can run more than -1.5 camber, and the plate needs to have an opening for the shaft to go through . what I was also considering is getting the ***** for the front and keeping the edfc on the rear

The only setup I think think "might" not fit the Cooper is the MCSC setup. The only reason I say this is that it seems that everything on that car is different.

I am running TEINs on my MC. I don't believe they are MC specific. I will tell you that the spring rates (linear rate) are listed at 500lb for the front which works well, and 500lb at the rear which doesn't work so well. TEIN offers an option spring for the rear that is around 375lbs or so, any lighter than that and you'd probably have to have the dampers revalved.

I'm not sure what competitor spring rates are but definitely check. The TEINs are super stiff which works well for autoXing and the track, but can be a bit much for the street.

I got my TEINs online from vivid racing.

cheers,

Kyle B
