What is this really?

Seller lists this as a "1977 Clubman" but it doesn't LOOK like one. And the badging and front grille are unfamiliar. Any ideas?

Thank you! I was confused by the MODERN Clubman name.... my bad. <sheepish>

PS - if one wanted to mount a 4-light bar on this car, what would be my options?

The Clubman was an abortive attempt to modernize the look of the Mini. It has a squared-off nose. Looks like a 60s Ford Falcon to me. The Clubman was the saloon and the Clubman Estate, was the longer "station wagon" version. It was similar to the previous Countryman/Traveller which had the same nose as the saloon.

I saw this car last year when I went to Charleston buy my Mini. A quick look said it was pretty decent little car. I didn't drive it as I really didn't want a Clubby. Turky has a bunch of 'em.

Is Turky always so... terse? He's a bit hard to talk to via email.

Does someone make a fiberglass kit for this purpose? I think I read that people had done that on the forums. Is it less safe to do that though?

The front sheet metal is cheap and you'd be better off with it over FG. The FG never seems to fit "right". Most who have them, don't like them and eventually get rid of them. That's why they're often only $150 or so.... There are inner fender repair panels to adapt the round front end to the Clubman., btw. The Clubman can look neat with a chin spoiler - my old Clubby

or a Zeemax Kit

less safe? is a plastic front end less safe than the massive expanse of reinforced steel up front in the standard classic Mini? Whoops - mine don't have that!

Uh .... kind of like comparing riding a motorcycle with the open face helmet that covers the ears vs the ones that don't

both are safer than NO hel'

and neither is as good as one with a chin bar

and none of the above is close to riding in a new MINI with the belts on and all the air bags.

Well, sure, but I'll accept SOME risk... I just figured if there were LESS risk one way than another then why not?

MiniMad - LOVE that first shot of the red car! I'm jealous and yes it does look pretty darned good with that chin spoiler...

I... well let's just say that I've met better email communicators.

I'd buy from him if he had A Car I Simply Could Not Live Without, but the yellow one above ain't it. (Sigh)... Back to the drawing board...

Is Turky terse? Yep. He does his best to get you on his lot. He wouldn't give me any details by email. I found out later he didn't know the details.
His shop guys are OK. He threw in a couple of deal sweeteners and shaved the price a bit for me, but we haggled for a month.

Gabemin - Did you buy the wrecked Mini? The one with the front, rear and roof pushed in? That one was gonna be a tough project.

FYI, Turky was a super nice man that I have met in person, He subsequently had a massive stroke which almost killed him and left him in a state of paralisis (sp?) and I am sure affected his typing and diction. I am not making excuses just letting you know the score. He was a total southern gent when I met him before his stroke.

Hope this helps clear up some things.

Regards: Peter
