Finally was able to find all the remaining parts to do my front drum to 7.5" disc conversion. They should all be here by end of next week and I'll be a stopping fol by the end of the month. Anyone who's done this conversion feel free to let me know about any little things to look out for or helpful tips. Thanks

Easy stuff dude... disconnect the hub ball joints (top and bottom) and the steering rack trackrod end. Obviously cut the tie on each driveshaft boot. Make sure brake line is disconnected also. Once all this is disconnected... pull towards you and should pop right out. Reassembly is pretty much just as easy. I am picky so I change things when I am in places I dont want to be for a while.. preventative Maintenance. Driveshaft boots, trackrod ends, steering rack boots, brake lines wouldnt hurt... you may have to change them anyway because they may have diff. threads than your caliper... just an idea. I am not saying yours needs all this but it is what I do if they have not been changed for a while. Anyway, slide it in; tighen all the ball joints / track rod ends and then put the caliper on after brake hose already screwed in or ya going to have to take the caliper back off to put brake hose in. i realized saturday at the track that i need disc brakes as i was heading into turn 1 after going 80 mph down the straight at gateway international raceway... oh yeah, and maybe some race seats.

 

80 is not something I see often, unless im coming down a good sized hill . the discs are more of a precurser to what I hope will be future engine endevours...

 

[FONT=Verdana,][SIZE=-1]I have come accross a problem with my disc break install and I am hoping someone can point my mechanic in the right direction. I have a previously purchased lockheed calipers off of ebay from a cooper s setup. I purchased the rest of the 7.5' setup from GB cars. My mechanic called me and said they had finished everything up and went to put the wheels on, but the caliper is rubbing. Should the 7.5" setup not fit a 10 inch wheel with no issue? i am not the most mechanicly inclined, so what are we missing here? I posted over on minimania as well. The 7.5 calipers should work just fine with 10 inch wheels without ANY rubbing. Do the wheels fit on at all? If by mistake you have an 8.4 inch disc setup then 10 inch wheels will NOT fit. Make sure that the calipers are for 7.5 inch disc brakes.

 

Don't forget that you're probably going to need to change the rear wheel slave cylinder so you're not locking up the rear drums!

After driving a twin leading shoe drum car and going to my 's' - man, I don't care what anyone says. S brakes are the stuff! It's sooooo nice being able to stop like a big boy car. (and a brake booster too!)
