Won't start. Acting like not getting fuel.

My 1275 is driving me nuts. I got the car from a guy in St Louis that said he was driving it and it just quit on him. When I got it in I tore it down to repray the car and install a lot fo fresh components. I replaced the wire harness with a new OEM replacment from miniusa.

The compression is spot on at 180 across the board, firing order is correct, spark plugs are getting good spark, and fuel pump is new. I thought it was the carb, so I replaced it with a Weber 32/36 kit, but it is still acting the same. I can see it injecting gas when I press the gas. Here is the kicker though, if I spray strater fluid into the carb, it will fire for second or two.

I am at a loss and want to just set the car on fire, but that is proably not the best solution. Any input?

Do you mean that 32/36 DGV carb kit that some of the online vendors are peddling? My 1275 had that on it when I got it and I tossed it straight away. Get yourself a quality carb like an SU or a sidedraft DCOE Weber. Once you get it tuned right your 1275 should sing.

Hopefully someone here has experience with that 32/36 DGV and can give some hints. I personally opted for an electric fuel pump which makes it a little easier when diagnosing problems like that. Have you thought about upgrading from your mechanical pump?

Ok ... dumb question. What's the state of the fuel coming to the carb? Maybe you've got water in the tank and what you're seeing spray is actually not combustable. Easy to check ... I've had those sorts of problems before.

Yes that one. The limited expirience I have had with carbs in the past has made me prefer a downdraft over side draft.

I will check on it.
