They have the same "A" series engine. You can put the top down on the MG. The Mini has more interior room.

I'd regard them as completely different cars, but would go for the classic. I drove a classic in Ireland for 4 years, then bought an R53 when I moved over to the states - was home at Christmas and drove the classic again . . and found the driving position very very tough (especially on the ankles)!! From that point of view you might want to consider the Midget. Even better just try driving both.

I've never driven a classic Mini. It's on the list!!! However, I've driven many classic british sports cars and owned a few. I would venture to guess they are VERY different drives.

I think a drive and each and you'll have your answer. I know it's easier said than done and there always is the "how beat up" is the version I'm going to get a shot to drive or ride in vs. the other car.....

Happy Hunting!

I love my Mini, but the Midget might be easier to work on with its more traditional layout. I'd be more inclined to look at the Midget's cousin, the Austin Bugeye Sprite, but it will cost lots more than a Midget if it's in good condition.

I envy you having a choice. I didn't have that choice back in the late 60s. The Spridget (Sprite or Midget) didn't have enough room for my 34" inseam legs, but the Austin Mini Cooper 1275 S had plenty.

I would go with the classic Mini as it will do nothing but increase in value over time. Not to mention that it will kill the MG in any cornering handling contest but the MG does have the advantage of being easier to work on. Let us know which one you choose.

I own both and love both. They are two completely different cars. if you think one is better for performance then you are wrong. You can add performance to both cars. The mini does have more room but then again the sprite does look better IMHO, plus the sprite is a convertible. both are great cars and super fun.

If we're going to include the Sprite then we should include the Austin Healy 3000 too!! I spotted a mint condition one last weekend, for $69k!!

The sprite and midget are the same car. So including the 3000 would not makes sense.

except for the engine size in the later cars when they stopped making the sprite.

I owned a Sprite and found it very easy to MOD. Head, headers, supercharger, etc.
